Someone pointed this out to me. I hope this is acceptable to post and isn't taken as advertising or something, because I believe it's quite interesting.

The main prize is apperently

An exclusive, one-of-a-kind life-sized Portal 2 Atlas bot created with the development team

They don't seem to have any pics of the actual thing but the rules state

The one (1) Winner will receive: (i) one (1) one of a kind life-sized Portal Bot Statue, with an approximate retail value (“ARV”) of $10,500;

At $10k that sure seems like it will be a 1/1 scale replica. I really hope whoever wins this take lots and lots of pics. Especially if it comes with the Portal gun.

I happen to know the shop working on this. I was actually asked to make it at first, but had to pass as I didn't have the bandwidth to take this project on myself.

Its going to be a pretty amazing piece, but it is 1/2 scale (around 36" tall) robot. when it was 1:1, I was going to provide the castings for the gun the 'bot holds, but with the scale change thats been made obsolete.

Around 85% of the piece has been 3D printed from some beeeeeautiful models, and another 10% was made on CnC. The rest of the handmade components are also pretty awesome.

I might still have a small hand in the production, so I'll toss up some pics of it as I get them if you guys are interested.

I would love to see an actual photo of this guy. At 36 inches, he is actually about the same height as my turret which is almost complete. Harrison, you would have done a stellar job on that but I know what you mean about bandwidth. That would have been one hell of a complicated project for just one person.

Hey does anyone have the exact measurments of how big/wide the P-body model would be in real life? I'm an artist and one of my newest projects was gonna be to make the P-body. Any help is appreciated!!!

I'd actually be curious to know a general size measurement too. I'd like to build a 12" P-Body, but I want to get the scale correct. Can anyone help me?

For anyone wanting to build a replica (hopefully not full size, as 'in cannon', these guys are larger than the average human), their best bet would be to rip the files out of the game.
Valve will be releasing some Portal 2 editing tools, hopefully this will include an updated model viewer that will allow you to look at the robots, because this will be the most useful resource in the world.

I'd absolutely LOVE any pictures or information on this Atlas build, because it popped into existence, and no one has any coverage, and it sounds absolutely wonderful.

Thanks for the pointers everyone. At this point I think I've decided, for the sake of sculpting and other elements, to go with an arbitrary scale of 9" for P-Body.


Although now that Valve has released the level editing tools I wonder if it includes access to player models as well?
