Official Ghostbusters PKE Meter Prop

You simply stated it was too expensive. To expensive for you is a whole different thing.

It's a steal at $50, I told them they should make it $100 and I'd still pay twice that.

Perhaps your judgement call should be reserved for if you ever see one.

Well, it may be the fact that I grew up in a time where you could buy something awesome for less than $40 that's sort of colored my point of view.

You grew up in that time and was cryogenically frozen and completely missed the last few decades of inflation?

I was born in 1982 and lived through the 1990s. It's safe to say that anything awesome I ever heard of was under the $40 range, unless it was a classic collectable (something from the past that was made that was still around, which was $50 or more) or an official replica made by a professional grade replica company. Mattel never fell and still doesn't fall into either of those categories.

Now, let's get back on subject please, which is about the Official PKE Meter prop replica.

Yes, the official PKE meter prop is a part of the recent movement of toy companies (neca, hasbro, mattel) beginning to make upper midlevel quality prop replicas. An exciting time indeed for those who recognize the trend.

Glad they're saying this piece isn't limited, I wasn't aware it was going to be when I commented last; it looks like I may be able to get a few after all. No, not to scalp - I hate buggers that do that.

The problem I have with it, though, it's pretty damn expensive.
I've got a stack of PKE parts downstairs that's run me several hundred dollars so far, and the thing isn't even built.

The problem with making it dirt cheap is that it really would end up being just a toy for the kiddies, and it would be crap, and no one would buy it. Or, you'd buy it, then dump another hundred bucks into it to bring it up to the level it needs to be. And then it's not exactly "cheaper", is it? Whereas this.. it's $60 that completely negates the $400 pile of parts and kit that I have downstairs.

Zodou, where did they say it wasn't limited?

But surely everything that's exclusive to MattyCollector.com IS limited by definition; if they were going to a do full run at mass market levels, they'd be in stores too.

I'll still be ready at my PC when they are made available, no matter what Mattel say about availability

Yes, everything at Matty is produced in small numbers in each production run. But when they say something isn't limited, they are saying that, if there is demand, they will make more batches. So, even if you miss out this time, you will probably get a second and third chance to get one. It may take a few months between runs, but it looks like this would be worth the wait.

Yeah, but have they actually said that? Zodou mentioned it being "not limited", but I can't seem to find a link or quote from Mattel on the issue.

Okay. :)

It just struck me as out of the blue.. everyone was talking about how limited these runs are and how quickly it will sell out, and then suddenly it's not limited anymore or whatever. I dunno. I still want one.

I love how u all have come to a conclusion to this toy b4 its even in production.. I have a PKE based off an IONA.. This toy is %98 on the the real deal, and doesnt feel anymore like a toy that the real one does... If you havn't held it shut ur trap.
Riiggghhhtttt cause the massed produced model is going to be just a magnificent as the prototype. :rolleyes

The one in the case was a prototype.

The one they were demoing in person was a production version and it looked better in hand.

I used to own an Iona, and a very excellent pair of castings from a member here.

No it's not as nice (they never are) but it's pretty damn good for $60.

We might all just be waiting. I am at the edge of my seat because, limited or not, something with this type of demand will go fast and matty doesn't seem to do unlimited runs of anything.

I played around with the PKE they had at CC, I'm impressed! I've held 2 of the best fan made replicas out there as well, and it was awesome for a licensed prop/toy!

AND, my dad (who busts with me) was eating lunch upstairs at the con in gear and one of the head designers sat next to him and talked to him a bit and told him, the Traps are NEXT!

That's fantastic!!! I decided to do GB for halloween 2011 and have been slowly putting little bits and pieces together. sounds like i chose the right time!

Fact of the matter is that even if the ones released aren't as nice as the prototype, it will still be good to rob electronics from. Hyperdynes are nice, but I'm not paying more for a PKE than I am a proton pack
