Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boots?

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

WOW! That Bob looks sharp! (or old and dirty..)

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

The gloves seem to be based on some oakley knockoff fingerless gloves, they replaced the section with the oakley logo and the plastic air vents.

Anyone IDed the scarf?

Forgot to put up a picture last time...

It seems to me to possibly be a vintage "look" scarf or bandana with a line drawing map
of some sort on it. But again, that's just a flat out guess.

Yep skint, that's the one I found. I've ordered some tan colored gloves, should be easier to paint. The plastic is still black tho. Still waiting for them to arrive.

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

I saw a review of some other oakley's and they complained about the colour leaking when wet, no doubt they were fakes. Hopefully this means it will be easy to bleach out the old colour.

As an aside check out this video at the 42:12 mark, looks like a decent tech 49 cosplay. I can't seem to find any other pic of him from dragoncon 2013 though.

Another non-costume item made its way to my collection here since I collect found object glassware from time to time. It's the bottle that was credited as "Bottle Design by NONOBJECT for Absolute Vodka".

A very different liquor bottle.

The palm leather is different than the film gloves, but it would be a decent base to start from.
Any ideas on how to change the finger vents to just armor? I was thinking of covering them
with something... maybe bondo them smooth on top and then paint?

The alternative would be to unstitch and then cover them with a thin leather... which sounds like a
lot more work.

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

Yeah your right, I assume that as the gloves would be getting a lot of direct wear they could just paint some pre made pairs so they had to custom make them from grey leather using the oakley design as a reference.

I guess it all depends on how far you want to go with the costume, if your getting a jacket/pants made might as well get the gloves made with the same leather and just provide the maker with some oakleys in your size as reference.

They probably stitch those vents in before stitching the rest of the gloves so it may be a pain to restich them.

Is the skeletool base the regular version or the cx (black) version? I've seen pics of both with the "plain" knife blade.

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

KramStaar's pic shows 154CM written on the blade, this is only on the CX version.

This is the one you want: Leatherman 830866 Skeletool CX Multi-Tool

I have a couple of them and matched it to KramStaar's, thanks to his excellent photos.

Painting it... now that's a whole 'nuther problem.

Phil, Well spotted on the cool vodka bottle. Also in the photo are Black-Blum lunch boxes & they also used Kor Delta water bottles & stuff from Umbra, Joseph Joseph and Alessi.

Do you have any specifics on any of these?

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

if you google for below you should be able to see the ones used on screen

Umbra penguin
JJ y-grinder
Alessi Birillo range (eg tissue box)
Pekoe Tea Glass (though you need to paint white as in the movie)

I got the Tea Glass in. It's really a nice piece. Thanks for the help on it. I had searched several times, but this doesn't come up when looking for coffee mugs. Just have to paint it now.

No one has really mentioned the carabiner. Here is a better shot (screen cap above, mine below):
