Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boots?

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

I think I've got a winner, the gloves appears to be Oakley half-finger gloves. Found some pics on local auction sites. You can see the prop maker filled the holes on the finger guard but you can still make out the shape of those vent holes, and the tear drop shapes matched perfectly.

I'm going to order some olive color ones, and paint them grey to match my jacket.

Well done - closest Ive seen, but different palm design suggests it may have been just the base for ones used

I don't believe the nylon can be easily painted...

You're right, it won't be easy to paint the gloves, or the boots for that matter. But what can you do? :unsure

I own the screen used Leatherman Skeletool seen in the movie.

Well, Mark, you can add this to the list of "things you own that I want!" :lol

It's Michael (Tundrarider at COW)

Feel free to post pics if you want to; perhaps you can also let us know if it's simply painted or was specially cast in this color for the film.

Congratulations on this piece!

LOL, thanks mate - I didn't recognise you in Red!!

I'll take some pics as soon as I can. Its a great prop even though its not strictly unique and its painted not finished white but the quality of the paint job is top notch so its not easily chipped or cracked. It was weathered for the movie and it still looks the same now - the only thing I might look at is the catch on the one arm because its doesn't lock the pliers any more. Not that's a massive problem though…

All the best
MARK

Looking forward to the pics!

Just a note on paint and color. MANY things were painted for this film. Staps, buckles.... fabric... don't underestimate just how much was painted the very pale grey color.

Re: Oblivion (2013) - Costume Found Object - ID The goggles, tactical gloves and boot

Love this thread! I loved the movie, and the aesthetics of the props used in it.

I've now bought a pair of Wiley-X SG-1 to make a replica of the goggles. This is also my first time trying to do a realistic replica prop, and not just my own stuff and look-a-likes, so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks to Rook 3 for inspiration!

Any of you guys know if the strap is a dyed/painted original Wiley strap, or has it been custom made around the original fixings? For a while I though there was no adjustment on the ones in the movie, but I managed to pause when he is putting them on, and it looks like the adjustment is at the midpoint in the back. So I guess it's possible they dyed/painted the original strap?

Also, what kind of paint do you recommend for painting the frame, what will stick the best? Would it be wise to use plastic primer, or would the paint end up being to thick?

EDIT:
Clasp/adjustment, had forgot about this scene:

Thanks Mark, much appreciated!

So what actual color is the painted parts of the handles? White? Grey?

Thanks again!

You're more than welcome mate. The painted areas are a thick, pure white gloss coat so its very striking indeed.

Best

Well, Mark, since you have the original for reference, and also possess the skills to replicate this, it looks like you're elected to do a run!!! :p

Thanks for posting the pics; it looks great!

Any news about the zip slider of the jacket?

It's not a costume, but this seems like the best place to show this off. Bob, better known to us as Elvis. My friend spidyfett (alex) painted him and some others up for me here at the shop last weekend. Base is laser cut mdf and acrylic.

Did anyone ever identify the scarf/ bandanna thing that Jack 52 wore?
