Obi-Wan Kenobi ROTS Costume Tips

I found the chemical product. They call it "sodium hydroxide". It is caustic soda. My future wife bought 1 Kg. I will try to do the experiment tomorrow and will let you know. Let's hope works over my rustic fabric.

The experiment did not go so well. Maybe I did not mix the chemical products properly. I will try it again tomorrow. I bought today the sewing threads that matches the fabric. My mom did the sewing test over the rustic fabric. Worked great, so next week she will start the prototype. Keep you posted about that. :D

Well, I found the fabrics, I found the pouches. The next step is build the belt. I never did this belt before. The construction is not a problem for me, what concerns me is the color. Anakin brown is dark brown or dark chocolate brown., but the Obi-Wan ones is hard to define. It is dark reddish brown, a little bit darker than the boots...I do not know, What do you think?

I agree beige...but why would you use Taffeta as opposed to silk lining?

I agree. After seeing it up close at the Star Wars exhibit in Ohio, I can confirm that the dickie sits on top of the cream colored tunic. It's not a vest over a brown tunic.

I used Tandy Leather's mahogany leather dye on mine and it looks pretty good. I think that's the right color, but not 100% sure.

Is mahogany the color? How is it? :confused

Yes, that's the color. It's a dark reddish brown color. Here's a picture of my belt if that helps.

Randy,
Amazing belt. I really appreciate your help. Dark reddish brown is not hard to get here. So I will try to get it tomorrow and do some dye tests. :)

If you can't find it, here is a link to the one from Tandy (it's not as red as the picture shows). I believe they ship internationally.

Hey, by the way, I bought the Simplicity #4450 early this year. Just cause I was curios about it. What do you think about this pattern? I know is not licensed or probably they are inaccurate, but they look good for me. The only weird thing I saw if the way you should cut the tabards, despite of that, I think they will work. My previous Jedi tunic I did it using another pattern, and old one I think. :confused

I recently noticed that in the original one, the borders of the main leather piece are rounded, not flat like the one Anakin used on screen, If you know what I mean. And It is not perfectly cut. Is it me or am I right?

Thanks to padawansguide.com and Maggie for keep online this photos.

In the Celebration III pictures it looks like the belt may have beveled edges, but in the pictures from the COSI exhibit I took (see below) it doesn't look beveled. Strange.

Not so weird. I saw two different Anakin belts in exhibits. One made with the crinkled leather and another one made using plain leather. This is probably cause they built some many costumes. I think that they had a quality test failure :)

Randy,
Did you notice that the belt strap is passing through the closure? Were you able to do it that way? I did several belt so far and never did it that way. Do you see the meaning of this?

PS: I noticed that in the Anakin Belt too.

Yes, mine is done like that. I just overlaped the outside piece like you see in the Celebration 3 pic. It makes it much more difficult to put the rivet through. I'll take pictures of how I did it and send them to you tonight.

I will look forward 4 them. Thanks.
About the rivets, If you glue them all together and later apply the rivets It should not be a problem. I will do it and post some photos too.

Randy, did you notice that the belt closure was not completely painted? I am planning to do it that way, but those photos are from ATOC. Do you know if ROTS belt was made the same way? :confused
