O-Rings on Master Replicas Darth Maul SE

All,
I am hoping someone can give some advice. I got a great deal on a Darth Maul SE, which allowed me to get it for less than I had been looking to pay for LE's. When I received the saber, I noticed that the O-Rings are very cracked and dried out since it has been displayed for several years.

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace/repair these O-rings, and if so, does anyone know what size/make (I know nothing about this stuff) to look for?

Also, the plaque seems to be very tarnished. Does anyone have advise on how/if it can be polished without damaging the signature?

Thanks for the help!

I believe in the past when this has happened people contacted MR's customer service department directly and they were sent a set of replacement rings. i'd try there first.

couldnt you also pay a buck and buy some at a home depot? i think they're basically the same. try #17 (1 1/16" OD x 7/8" ID x 3/32")

Thanks for all the great information. I was planning on cutting one off and taking it to lowes/home depot and see if I can find a match. I will try the #17 and work from there.

Thanks all!

I had this problem and had an awful time trying to find exactly the right ID/OD size for Maul O-rings. After buying several and none of them fitting properly, I emailed MR customer service asking if I could buy some replacements and they just sent me a bunch for free.

I mailed them this morning, but I figured given the age of the replica it is a longshot that they will still be providing them, so I am planning on looking for them in hardware stores.
Thanks for the advice!

While mine seem to be in good shape, I am wondering if there's anything preventative that could be done to keep them from drying and cracking?

That's a great quetion Hedjii72. I am hoping someone here knows a way, as I don't really want to do this again every couple years! I know I am going to get a case with full cover for it, maybe that will help. Once I get this guy dusted clean I want it to stay that way!

You can use silicone lube to help prevent them from drying and cracking. Though it will only slow the process. Every time I clean my brewing equipment or SCUBA gear, I clean the O-rings thorougly and use just a bit of silicone lube. Since both those applications come in contact in some way with what I consume, I use a food-grade lube.

Hi all,

Yes, what Wuher Da Brewer says. Putting some silicone lube or oil on the O-rings prevent them to dry fast. That's what I did when I had a MR Maul saber. That's also what we have to do with the working Logan's Run guns which uses some O'rings on the tank. With the Maul saber, I also moved the O-rings on the saber, turned them on to avoid them to always have the same surface opened to air...I hope you will understand my explanations :rolleyes
