Nu Galacita in 1/2500th scale

Well... I'm totally flattered. It's pretty easy stuff... patience is the main key. I start by priming the thing in white... using Games Workshop Skull White. For the top colour, I'm using Vallejo acrylic figure paints. I put down a base coat of Natural Steel mixed with black so it's good and dark... then did a sencond coat when dry, to hit all the white parts showing through... nice and even. Then I drybrushed some of the straight natural steel over the whole thing. When dry, I did a wash of straight black... pretty thin... in many layers. Another VERY light drybrushing of the steel... then when dry, a super light drybrushing of silver and that was that.

I guess the trick was getting the balance between the first go-round of drybrushing and the wash of black... bringing up the hgihtlights, then smoothing them out. I knew I wanted this one to be pewter finish... but the biggie... gotta got third season beat-to-hell on it...

The base was spray painted gold... then washed many many times in a dirty brown... wash and dab... wash and dab... until I liked it.

Thanks for the amazing model Coby...
cheers,

Let's get back on track, How's it coming along Cobywan? Any more updates? Battlestar Galactica is coming back on TV this Sunday, and I love this thread BTW the detail is amazing. Also you mentioned that you were thinking of doing the Battlestar Pegasus, will it be in the same scale as this model?

Hey guys. There's been NO progress since the last update. We've been doing 55+ hour weeks again and I haven't had any time to work on the bucket.

As to the beast...I don't have any current plans and it seems there are already some Peggies coming out so it won't really be worth the time to do one. Besides, I've got a TON or work to do on Galactica.

I've seen one of the Peggies out there and it looks like ASS... anyone have any idea where to get one in line with Coby's BRILLIANT mini-G.?

I think there is one going to be available that Alfred Wong patterned. I'm not sure though. He based it on referencees that I haven't been able to get myself.

Thanks for the info Coby... haven't been able to find the kit yet... but still looking. Any idea who carried it?

I don't think it's out yet. My guess is Fantastic Plastic. There were some posts over at Starship Modeler.

I got a hold some preview stuff for Alfred Pegasus - it looks pretty nice at first glance, but the proof is when you sit it next to coby's mini-G ;) which I will be planning on ;) I contacted the guy who was pouring the resin and he said most likely in a couple of months but didn't say which outlet - but I'm betting the the SSM store will carry it for whomever it is ;)

Not to blow smoke... but the Peggie has a LOT to live up to if it's gonna sit next to Coby's miniG... i just hope the scale matches....

Agreed. Coby's mini-G is easily the most detailed model of that size I've ever laid my hands on. It is a spectacular peice of work...

Alfred's Peggie, by the look of it is roughly to scale with Coby's mini-G. Meaning that its bigger by about an inch or so - I'm just eyeballing from the pics that don't have any ruler in them ;) As for detail I can't really say but Alfred produces some good stuff usually so I expect good things. The thing with the peggie though is that it has all of its hull plating etc so most of the "guts" are supposed to be covered up so... the level of detail probably isn't has high, although the paneling of the hull plating should be pretty interesting. I'll be picking one up when its available... When I do I'll let you know for sure.

But Back on Topic -
Coby - Feel the Love man. We are ALL hanging on you're every piece of cut styrene ;) Bring on the 1/2500.... :thumbsup

Indeed. Good things are worth waiting for. This Galactica kit is sizing up to be a very good thing.

There's nothing to report. Other than a severe case of burnout caused by two months of overtime.

Gee Its sounds like you're totally overworked and in need of a Hobby :D

Just kidding - glad you're makign the cash - and we'll still be waiting when you get to the Big G
