Not props, but sets!

I'm making up some new set walls for my show Transylvania Television.

You can watch our pilot at www.transylvania-tv.com

Its a sitcom done entirely with puppets. And its for GROWN UPS.

Anyway, I needed some new generic castle walls to use for an upcoming shoot so I layed into three 2" sheets of white foam with a box cutter and a grinding bit on a cordless drill.

I'll be painting them tonight.

I got started and quickly realized that I was so far behind schedule that I had to just tear in and get the stones cut. I flashed back on the extras on the LOTR dvds and recalled a woman literally just slashing away at a foam wall making stonework for the movie. So that's what I did. I didn't even sand the surface. I just went whacky with the box cutter.

Really? Just a box cutter and not a Styro cutter?? Incredible work with just a knife! Use a latex paint though, as some rattle can paint could eat away at the styrofoam.

Yup.. gotcha there.

And yes.. just a knife. I started with a grinding bit in a cordless drill. I ground a trough about 1/2" wide to delineate the stones but after that it was all knife work.

It goes pretty fast too.

The rounded rocks in the "blocked in" archway were done the same way except i rounded them over with some rasps and wire brushes. Then I sanded them with 80 grit gently to really make the surface different from the "cut" stones in the wall. The difference will be heightened even more when they get painted. I wanted them to look like they were an afterthought... some servant went and gathered field stones or river rocks and blocked up the archway for some reason. Maybe they were sealing a body into an alcove? :eek

The actual pilot is in the gallery section along with the R-rated outtake reel. We'll probably move the web content there as we create new pieces and replace them on the front page.

In a few minutes, I begin paint on the walls!

Once again, thank you fellas. We shot a sketch in front of these sets last weekend and it will be up on the Transylvania Television website early in October. Look for it! :)

I saw these in person today. Seriously, they were awesome. Thanks G for helping me out. I promise to repay the favor.
