Nostromo Crew Shirt

Wanted to show off my current project -- the white crew shirt from the 1st Alien movie

FinalShirt-sm.jpg

The base shirt I used was a short-sleeve Dickies twill workshirt (#1574). It won't wrinkle much (which is bad), but it should last a long time (which is good).

You could find those here:
http://www.dickies.com/wc2/product.asp?sty...=101&type=B
Or at any local store that sells Dickies stuff.

The shirt then has to be shortened and of coarse modified with all the pockets, patches, piping (Lt. Pink), epaulets and assorted do-dads.

This pic is minus the front snaps, which should be silver/nickle, in place of the buttons.

I found lt. pink piping thru eBay; one source is here:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?f...ght+pink+piping

And the patches and pins can be found at The Intergalactic Trading Co.

Nostromo Pins - $20.00

Nostromo Shirt Patch (Lt. Blue Bkgd) - $7.00
http://www.intergalactictrading.com/product.cfm?pid=ALPA59/F

And WY Wings - $6.00

Hope you like it.

Cheers !

Sweet. Your shirt really looks the part. :thumbsup I want to make a Nostromo uniform too some day.

IIRC someone was working on the crew jacket a while ago... are you going to tackle that too?

What reference material did you use for the shirt detailing? Any patterns available?

Thanks guys

I guess with Alien being almost 30 years old, it is not as trendy as it once was. Usaully the Alien himself gets all the press :lol and then there are the Colonial Marins , Absolutely bad-ass.. ;)

My friends actually created the pants and jacket about 5 years ago -- they did a fabulous job, too.. One of them made a pair of pants for me last summer, so I decided to try to complete the costume by tackling the shirt. I am hoping that with their help I can also do the jacket.

I am working on scanning some patterns I drew up, after doing the shirt. I will try to post them up here soon.

If you'd be interested in making a few bucks, please let me know. I'd love to commission you to make me one. :thumbsup

Too cool, if you share you patterns that would be very awesome. You did a great job, it is instantly recognizable. :thumbsup

For reference materials, you can try:

They cater to ALL things Alien

And
http://www.markta.co.uk/alien/index.htm
Is a great place to exain stills from the movie.

There is also a book (sadly, it is out of print) called the "Alien Movie Novel" ed: by Richard J. Anobile © 1979.
This book pops up on eBay every now and again, so search, search, search.

The book contains the story in stills and dialog from the movie -- not real hi-res, but at least you can see the way things match up.

I am also coordinating with Dan over at SciFiHeros.net to help him with the Nostromo costum threads there. I believe he may have links to movie pics, soon.

I have plans to make one of these as well. Please keep adding to this thread...if you have anything else to share. :)

Awesome work by the way.

Thanks again everyone.

This has been one of my favorite costumes and it only took me 26 years to get to it. :)

... Another closer look

This is an off the rack backpacking/hiking shirt.

Note the box shaped cargo pockets and on the left sleeve there are pockets for 4 pens. When I saw it I thought it looked like something from Aliens so I bought and later bought the patch for it.

Awesome. Wgat pens did you put in the pocket?
[/b]

The pens on either end are just some pens I had laying about and collected over the years, which I though looked good. I think the gray one is a Bic, but don't know for sure. (my shirt is on loan to a costuming friend, so I cannot check it now.)

THe middle "pen" is really a pen flashligh made by Eveready called the Pen Pro.

I also found them at Wal-Mart and my loacl sewing store (Joann's) had them.

The actual movie one is the same flashlight, but with a black body and the top is white or clear. Mine is opposite.

I don't know. Hiking/backpacking stores sell shirts like these.
For what its worth, the manufacturer is "North River Outfitters".
