Noob cosplay single dad trying to make Mandalorian armor

I haven't gotten on this site for a while, but my son is 9 and really wants to be a Mandalorian for Halloween this year. Is there anyone that can point me in the direction of an EVA foam template similar or identical to the "Mandalorian" from the show?

I can’t help ya out, but hopefully others here can. If you don’t get any results here, I would try the dented helmet

There’s got to be templates out there somewhere for ya

Bill did some foam builds of the helmet a while back. Here is the video:

The description has links to the templates and links for materials.

The Welding Geek has made armor from aluminum. I don’t think he has templates available, but you can see his process and adapt the templates he shows in the videos for rough shapes. TheWeldingGeek

thedentedhelmet.com will have a lot of useful information for you.

Here is a link to some Mandalorian armor templates, but I think theses are Boba.

You might consider using Sintra instead of foam for the armor pieces. I have made some armor for my sons, one set in Worbla and one in Sintra. Sintra is very easy to work with, but wear a respirator when heating it. Since it is armor, I prefer it being a hard surface like Sintra, but that is just personal preference.

What is Sintra and where would I get it?

I hope this is what you were looking for:
I would start with cardstock/coloured cardboard since your kid hasn't fully grown yet and any other material is quite expensive to have to resize every so often. For your consideration.Good luck with this project and be sure to start a thread with photos !

Sintra is expanded PVC board, often used for printing signs. It's light weight, easy to work with, form, cut, sand, glue and paint. You do need wear a respirator when heating and sanding it. There are lots of videos on YouTube that can show you how to use it.

I have ordered it from cosplaysupplies.com, although there are many places you could by it from. I think I used 3mm for my sons' armor. You might be able to get a sheet from Amazon or a local sign shop might have a scrap you could use to test how you like working with it.

I use Sintra for other costume and school projects with my sons, so I usually get 10 sheets of it from cosplaysupplies.com at a time because of the volume discount and just keep a supply of it around.

Lots of people do amazing work in foam, too! That is a great option and I have used foam for some things... but for this type of project I personally have better luck using Sintra.

Please do research how to work with Sintra and wear a respirator if you go down that route.

I am also from Iowa, by the way. Good luck!

There's this guy on The Dented Helmet who's been making a mandalorian helmet based from rafalfett's patterns.

Just wondering how you made out? Find what you were looking for? Don’t leave us hanging in this thread. Don’t forget to come back and post some progress pics!
