Well surprise, surprise... even though I think it's overpriced (like almost all of NC products) the grapnel gun is a keeper. :thumbsup
Contrary to what NC told me, it's not permanently attached to the case, and actually very easy to remove and reattach. The gun is held in place by 4 support brackets that can be simply unscrewed from the back of the case (you can see one of the screws in the pictures).
The gun itself is hollow metal, has a working trigger and looks much like the original, but as with all licensed pieces, it's missing some key details like the five screws around the trigger guard and grip. It does included some markings that I have noticed are absent from the similarly priced Diamond Select cold-cast porcelain gun (which is permanently attached to it's base).
Now I will say that it does have a bit of an "old school" hollow metal toy feeling to it with an obvious "seam" that runs the the entire length of the grip and trigger guard, but I do believe that the original has that seam as well.
The display case is nice. It's very solid, has a hinged lid with a glass window and is held closed by two magnets (nice to have if you decide to hang the case on the wall with the two horizontal picture frame brackets that are on the back of the case).
As I said before, it's a keeper, and I am even more happy with it because my expectations were so low to begin with.
The mini mine is also all metal and very nice as well. I had already seen a hands-on review of it so I knew what I was getting.
Without the "spikes" it's about the size of a tennis ball so it is obviously based on the larger of the two types of mini mines from the movie.
I would have preferred that they made the smaller one, but it's such a cool piece, I am perfectly happy with the larger one.
