Brad, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

By the way: if anyone is seriously throwing out their knockoffs over any of this, send them to me. I'll even pay for shipping. Haha

...I just did that for a SINGLE HC shoe that had broken electronics. It's now my experimental shoe that I won't feel bad about completely destroying.

I know how you feel. I am on the fence whether they weill release anything resembling the MAG's again. My brain tells me no but my heart is holding out. I truly believe that they will release a MAG inspired shoe. Something like the Kobe's but with a BTTF inpsired colorway. I think Nike just thinks people want self lacing shoes and they don't care if they look like the movie shoe or not.

Agreed. I'm not sure these corporations actually understand WHY people like these things or what they want. That's why it took until a few months ago for Universal to finally remember they owned the BTTF property and to start putting out replicas. (By co-opting any available molds or factories already making products...which is actually really clever)

It's why the Mattel Hoverboard looks the way it does. They think "well, this is a toy, let's just take some liberties to make it more like how we would really make it!" They even had Roland offer his graphics free of charge and still released what they did.

It's why Tinker and Parker were so key to the 2011 Mag release, they had a love for details in the originals, and tended to change things only to increase quality or durability.

Without someone like that on the back end, corporations start tearing ideas apart because "it's not how we'd do it now" so they start messing with things to "perfect them" making them less of what we want.

So far, Universal is the only company I have respect for in all of this. They recognized a want in the market, and unapologetically went after the entry level market...now if only they would create a premium line, or the other rights holders would finally recognize that the movies shouldn't be an inspiration for releases...they should be a blueprint.

/rant over (I get so riled up over this stuff...if it wasn't 1:30, I'd have a nice drink to calm my nerves)

If they never do release them then I'll pay full price off ebay before buying another pair of hong kong phooey junk shoes that were no longer working after 2 steps accross my bedroom floor.

Well, if you don't want them anymore, like I said, I'll take them off your hands and even pay shipping. Haha

Yup. See my earlier post. Tinker has only made two vague comments about the Mags and that was one of them.

My earlier post:

Everything Tinker has said can be more easily interpreted as dry humor than as any official news. And he has only said two things: 1. Power laces are coming in 2015. (Which can easily be a joke about the movie) and 2) they have 11 and 2/3 months left to make it work. (Which is even more obviously a joke about the movie) As I've pointed out before, if they don't have their tech and tooling done by now there is essentially zero chance that they could bring anything to market this year.

All of the different "confirmations" that everyone posts have their origins in just those two statements. They are not official statements from Nike. They are Tinker responding to questions at events. And neither time does he even approach saying "Yep, they're coming, for sure." Seriously, it's just a bunch of websites reading WAY too far into the same two sentences he said. Nothing to see here.

Okay, now you're just trolling. That is LITERALLY the same thing. And now I've addressed it 3+ times in the last few pages.

EDIT:
One more ore time with feeling:

"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say yes!" -February 2014

“11 and two-thirds months left in 2015″ -January 2015

That is EVERYTHING he has said on the matter. 20 words. Nowhere does he even say the word Mag. Nowhere does he says they're releasing them.

When they announced the 2011 shoes, they had a HUGE event. They're not going to announce a more complex shoe at some obscure conference.

There is nothing more to say on the matter because nothing has been said on the matter. Give it up.

I agree that it's unlikely the Nike Mags will be put into production again. I'm thinking at best a shoe "inspired by", like Jedifyfe said.

But I seem to recall the 2011 Mags came out of the blue also. There was no communication in advance and not even rumors, although they had been working on them for quite some time. If anything happens, it will be a secret until the very last minute.

After a few coats of rit dye, still not having much of an effect asides from leaving little weird bits of purple. I think adding alcohol may be the key to making this mod successful.

for tinting the clear section, you may have some luck going to a shop that sells model kits and the tiny paint jars for them. When I built my Star Trek Enterprise-E model, I was able to get some translucent blue for painting the inside of the clear warp nacelles so that it could be lit from within. (sorry, it's in storage now, no pics available) - you may have to thin it down quite a bit with turps or perhaps mix with a translucent white as well, but if you've got something you can test on, couldn't hurt to try. Are you painting the outside of the clear? That can cause whatever you're painting on to build up on some parts of the surface. If you paint the inside rather than the outside, the colour should come out more even-looking. But I stress testing this first on something that can flex (you can buy clear plastic sheets about the thickness of the clear sole and more from some rubber shops, though they have no pattern so they suck for soles - yes I've tried but not on MAGs) as I'm not sure of the flexibility of that type of paint. The only thing I ever used it for was a non-flexing part. But there may be a water-based option these days, which are generally more flexible once dry. Just a thought, there's no model kit shops near me to check and give this a test to fight the yellowing of my own clear soles, though I'd like to. When I have time I might go to central Melbourne which should have something I could use. Failing even THAT, maybe a small piece of light blue translucent Contact (a stick-on book covering) put on the inside of the clear might help. That's something I can go look for today.......

Very True.

It seems people on the web just pick up on a few words and seem to create their own version of events without fact checking.
Its like one blog posts it up, then everyone else believes it and then it spreads and people take it as fact!

Its this kind of unverified stuff that you see everywhere these days unfortunately!

Until Mr Nike says so, we must live in hope rather than expectation for any new affordable release.

I will find something somewhere that is the proof

You won't find anything because it doesn't exist.

Unless it was the past being changed and now its "erased from existence".

I have a question for those who have used acrylic paint for the soles.
How well does Angelus paint by itself stick to the grey rubber soles?

would you say its more or less the same as standard acrylic or does it have something in it to make it have better adhesion?

how strong is the adhesion of the new rubber to the grey rubber soles?
after its cured, can you still peel it off? and does it peel off if you scratch it or dig in with your fingers or is it properly stuck to the original grey soles?

how much time do you have to peel the stuff off if you want to do so before it cures fully?
The grey did at least two coats to be thick enough not to peel.
once cured, it remains flexible and appears to have bonded well. It is now a skin over the original rubber.

This rubber takes 6 hours to cure. It seems I was able to peel some of the thicker bits off from the splatter without affecting the grey rubber underneath. It has been 5 days now and I am sure the best way to remove it now would be to cut or grind it off. I doubt it will peel now.

It is not without compromising something. The positive is I now have midsoles with more correct colour. The negative is I lost the texture in the process. I do believe that it is possible to build texture up one dot at a time if you have the patience. You can also go back and add more later as you need. This will include touch ups should there be any wear damage.

Overall I am happy with the shape of the shoes. I like the colour scheme too.
