In use and when charging it doesn't get warm

The charger gets slightly hot when it charges two shoes at same time but that is only natural.

If you ever find the batteries getting to hot it usually means something is wrong, the cells inside the battery is what is heating up and that is not a good thing.. Two things happen (worst case scenario) first the battery explodes or second the battery will lose charge and not hold its charge, maybe dropping out at around 6-8v max.

well at the moment im doing various tests with different types of batteries.

ive set up a test for the leds

ive got 12 leds in parallel (2v forward voltage each) , 15 ohm resistors, running from a 3v power source (2 x aaa 1.5v batteries)

the 2 aaa batteries are in a battery holder, they do feel kind of slightly warm, unless its just my hands because ive been messing with solder half the day.

Hook a multimeter up to the +/- of the battery and check the voltage, safest bet.

After that check if they heat up when recharged and keep running tests, I had to do several checks whether it was while the shoes were lit up or if they were charging, it's a painful process but in the end you need to make sure everything is ok, imagine wearing them out coming home and charging them and they blew on you, you would have to rip the insides out again and start over.. Trust me you don't want to blow a battery, the black powder that is left behind could seriously ruin the shoes, I was very lucky put it that way and thank god for keyboard hoovers.

i think it might just be my hands from holdering that soldering iron for so long, i just left the 2 x aaa batteries lighting up the leds, and the batteries dont seem warm.

these 3mm diffused leds are perfectly fine, evenly lit up, and once connected with the EL strap and El sole cutouts, i think the basic 3v setup ive done here is fine.

the reason im testing this one, is I want to see how long 2 x aaa batteries last with leds, and el lights. for this shoe, its not going to use a plug in charger or anything. you can just remove the batteries manually as normal.

if they do fairly well on battery life, ive found that you can get 1.6v nizn rechargeable aaa batteries which are about 1000mah.

so 2 x nizn rechargeables aaa at 1.6v will be 3.2v so still ok i think with the leds as the resistors i have are ok to cope.

once i find the thin 9v inverter, i will start on them conversions also.

but for time being, because i dont want to risk with lithium and diodes and stuff and ive got the 3v inverters, i thought i would try this setup and it seems to be ok.

just need to cut the el out and solder the wires.

I never tried to see if AAA batteries fit under the sole but if they do you can get big mah from them you are right, also a charger to suit, my experience with 3v setup is that the EL drains your batteries, only problem

What are the specs on the resistors for your setup, Taff? Are they the same as Jedifyfe's?

Jedi's were 10 ohm 1/2 watt 5% resistors.

The LEDs are 12v with no resistors, they work perfectly

The only thing I'm still fuzzy on is the glue. I know the answers are spread around back in this thread, but info and techniques sometimes evolve from older posts.

So aside from 3M Super 77 for the strap, and hot glue for the back of the LED board, the only other glue to use on the entire shoe is Loctite liquid AND gel? Where do you use liquid and where do you use gel? Why use the liquid at all? Seems like the gel would be easier to control and less dangerous of running where you don't want it. Thanks, and sorry if this is a dumb question. I just need a recap.

I'd like to see someone have cloneprops's ankle buckles and heel cups on these. That would would achieve these shoes' maximum potential in terms of modding.

I use his buckles on the pair I linked as it houses my dc jack very nicely.. I don't like the v2 ones, you probably laugh but I fed my v2 buckles to my cats, they loved ripping them to pieces

As for the heel cups i personally wouldn't use cloneprops ones on a pair of V2's that is, unless the bubbles were supplied.. far to much messing about and when you think of it the heel cup is glued on, if the cloneprop heel cup wasn't the same size you would have glue stains all over the shop.. the buckles are a safe bet though as they are detachable

i mean check this out for spot the difference.. (sorry for the crap photo maybe someone else can do a better job of this comparison)

I might just be fussy but i personally see a huge difference, also apart from them being like 99% accurate to the real mags they also have the mold lines all the way around them which i think Cloneprops did a tremendous job in including, so worth the price imo

PS - I don't want to touch on this subject to much as i believe it should really be in the knockoff thread but as were on the subject of modding v2's i guess it kinda has its place here.

They would work, when considering dimensions for the switches you are really only concerned about the height of them, the length and breadth isn't really a big thing.

If you can link these Mitas that would be great and I will compare the dims of both types.

i already got these, along with the ones taff83 recommended, i ordered them at the same time to see if they were any good, and they seem too brittle and weak.

they still stick out of the cuff when pushed fully inside even though they are small. How are you guys fitting a judco switch and the other bigger switch in the cuff? they are much bigger than the smaller one i ordered alongside that one, and that one just barely fits in!

I put some hot glue around the ends to make it stronger and so when you push it in with a screw driver it doesnt damage it.

i'm not sure how you guys are managing to push the switches in, im finding it quite difficult to be honest. do you guys have some close up pics of your switches inside the cuffs?

here's that tiny switch on the right hand side inside the cuff. you can see it still sticks out, not sure if its more or less than what you guys have managed to do?
