Fao air air re the el sheet......

I used top and bottom for the sole, then i did another 2 sole bits by going at an angle, i had a bit maybe 4x3 inches left from that sheet

The el wire goes to the right side of the right circle..... I was able to end the curve on the edge of the a5 el sheet and effectivly bend the terminal to 90 degrees. I made a slit in the sole so the el angle simply slips into that and the wire comes up through the sole. Its very safe, doesnt move or stress the el connection or wiring.

I then used small dabs of the flex loctite glue to keep the el in position, then simply folded the clear sole back up and glued that the same way.

The only downside on one shoe was that i yellowed the rubber under too much heat so i had to mix some blue rit up very washed out and brush it accross to bring some life back into it.

The only other thing i would do differently would be to not use a white vinyl outline but go with a grey to match the sole rubber, this way i feel altho not accurate to the rd they will allow a bit more impact to give the el the impression its in 2 pieces yet still being as one

Anyway i have now finished them, took some better pics so enjoy my modded shoes

Toe mod, sole el mod, new leds, totally rewired to 9v in the sole with the 9v micro invertors, added the el strap, judcos fitted into the cuffs, it all works togeather off one switch, rit dye on the sole to take out the yellow tinge on the sole, all wiring runs inside the shoe fabrics with exception to the el collar which goes into the original power switch hole. The edging on the shoe was done with shoe goo in a fine needle bottle to give a finished seam.

Enjoy

Congrats! Very nice. My own personal opinion is that they look better with the flattened/ironed out laces....

hi
did you get the A5 from elwirecraft?

i got 1 A5 sheet from elwirecraft, and it came with 4 corners presoldered with wires covered with heatshrink. The corners seem to have copper tape actually glued onto the el sheet with a layer of film over the top.

and there are no other positive/negative terminals like i have on some other El sheet i have previously, where you can reuse those bits by using wireglue.

On this one i got, only 4 corners can be used and thats it.
Unless i actually peel off the backing film, and then use some copper tape onto it.

Unless they now supply different el sheets from a different manufacturer.

Man, that is one awesome piece of work you did right there.
Perfect.
what camera are you using? absolutely brilliant pictures. I need to invest a good quality camera.

The only thing left i guess is your flattened laces otherwise perfect
(y)thumbsup

another question, which would you guys say, white or grey electric tape is better to cover the bits on the el sole cutouts?

What I'm going to do is use white enamel paint on the midsoles under the outersoles. That way you don't see the grey midsole and turquoise splattered paint underneath. It would also make the clear soles look more white. So if you were to do that, then I would go with white electrical tape.

Yes it was an el wirecraft with the corner connectors, you cant get new ones on as theres a tape on the back which destroys the el panel if you try to remove.... I used the el sheet as it came, just like the one you have

The laces did get ironed, they have flattened alot but depending on the angle of viewing determines how they look

The camera is a 10mp pentax dslr k10. 5 years old now but shot manually gives fatastic results for what was an entry level dslr at the time

For those of you all who find yourself seeing little pieces of midsole or paint on the clear rubber sole, you can use a Dremel tool with a rouded sanding bit to remove it from the inside:

I can see that you have a couple of these:

hi guys,

i want to get a V2 then mod it. But I have never really modded, soldered, etc. and i don't know much about the electronics. is there a detailed tutorial preferably a video on mods. I saw some of the videos here but it's not detailed. I really need a detailed step by step process. this is all new to me and i don't think i'm capable of modding it. or is there a way for me to send the V2 to you guys to mod it if the cost is not too much. thanks guys. :)

Welcome,

The short answer is no.

The tutorials that I put up are as detailed as I will go. There is amazing information in this thread, if you care to read it.

Here are my recommendations:

1) Read this thread from start to finish
2) Watch all of my tutorials and study the wiring diagrams given in this thread
3) Buy your shoes and when you get them, study them before you do anything.

Start with the toe mod, take your time...I mean go REALLY SLOW! Then when you have the toe mod done, take on seperating the soles for the EL.

Make sure you order all your supplies in advance.

Quoted for emphasis.

Another option is to hold off buying the V2's for now, and instead practice the techniques you'll need to modify them. Buy a pair of crappy sneakers from a thrift shop and try to unstick the toe from the sole, or separate any additional sole pieces from the main sole.

Grab some EL sheeting and an inverter and practice cutting it to shape and wiring it.

Get your hands on some LEDs and learn what it takes to solder them (There are some great tutorials on YouTube...and a decent starter soldering iron is dirt cheap) taking the time to research the differences between series, parallel, and the need for resistors in these circuits.

Once you feel more comfortable with some of the techniques, then go purchase the V2's and you'll be surprised what that little boost of confidence will do. Just start with these small goals and build up to your major goal. It's always easiest to climb a mountain if you break it down into its individual steps first.

Plus, once you have some experience, you'll realize just how detailed Brad's videos and descriptions REALLY are.

Good luck.

hi everyone i want to mod my v2 but i dont know if i should im good at soldiering and connecting wires do you think i should mod them?

You don't know if you can solder? Then you probably shouldn't! ;) If you just practice, you should catch on after a few test runs. I taught myself a few years ago when I needed specific type gadgets that didn't exist, so I practiced and eventually was able to make them! I still fry parts now and again, so maybe I'm not such a good self teacher. :D

Thanks to Jedifyfe and NickFox for the help, I`ll also try to do a mod like this for the first time and I`m confident that I`ll able to do it right. I`ve already been following this thread and purchased some things that are necessary for the mod (also massive thanks to airair). One first question though regarding the toebox. Did you guys use a clamp to keep the toebox together after glueing? I remember Jedifyfe saying in his tutorial that the Loctite only takes 5 seconds to dry but did you just press it together with your hands for quite some time or did you use clamps?
I remember someone posting pictures of the MAGs lying on the side with clamps, maybe that was after glueing the soles having replaced the LEDs with the EL sheets? Thanks!

5 seconds is pretty fast. Pretty sure you can hold the toe box together for that time. Yeah the clamps were used for re-attaching the soles.

After a few tests, i finally got my 3v setup working.

i'll scan in my el sole cutout for anyone who needs it. I tried to make it as accurate as possible, and its the best i could do.

maybe it might be of use to somebody here.

thanks for the tip,

yeah, those splatters seem to be stuck to the clear sole rubber when you take them off, even if you do it slowly.

How bright is the EL sheet supposed to look like in normal daytime in a room?

want to check if the EL is bright enough if im powering with 3v
thanks

Bright enough that it doesn't look like a piece of aqua coloured paper, it should look like a light if it doesn't your LEDs are drawing to much power, if you haven't hooked up LEDs then it's the inverter, I have got no where with the tiny ones you gave me and now I'm back to the ones I got from elwirecraft that I've modded to bypass the switch.

I'm not going into the 3v setup as its too complicated to explain tbh, I'll be making two pairs one to display and one pair to sell on here.

Ps if you don't own a dremmel to remove the paint on the rubber sole on the inside where the EL sole sits just use paint thinners, a cloth and a xacto knife job done
