Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I'm going to have to disagree, the new LEDs are much cleaner, much sharper and brighter. Once you had the shoe apart how hard we're they to get to? And did you have to change anything else, or just straight up swap of the LEDs?

The entire shoe is a bear to work with. Very strong glue was used. I swapped out EVERYTHING, from wires to resistors to battery.

I also just added the EL... :love

Hello all the world,
i am new and I adore yours work, you are ingenious as much the one as the other.:thumbsup
I received my pair of mag and I have already attacked the customisation.
Or I can found the technique of cutting for the logo nike el please.
Thank you in advance.:love

Nice work again Brad!

How did you do the heel cup leds though? did you remove the heel cup to get into the leds or did you do this from the inside of the shoe? if you can do a quick step by step that would be awesome! i was going to paint the bulbs already there but i like your way better, looks just like RD Mags :)

I did the charger ports instead of the toe slimming last night as they finally arrived. Hooked up the diode to the positive cable from dc port to battery. As you can see the red led on the charger plug is lit up and working perfectly :)

Yo brad when did you he the RDs? Haha. Looks crazy good. Taff I'm on the same battery and charge port as you but I'm still wondering about how to charge em, what charger plug are you using? Also, do you do both shoes off of the same plug?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I use this charger as you can adjust and control accurate 3v input :)

Ye I want to make or get a two way splitter for it so I can charge both shoes off one lead :) but tbh I'll probably just buy two plugs :)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I'll do a step by step but basically I pulled the heel cup back from the fabric, the same ways did the toe slim. It takes a lot of effort but once you have it coming off the fabric, it comes off quick and clean.

Are you running the EL and the LEDs off that one battery?

Here is what it looks like when you remove the heel cup:

On another note, when THIS battery comes out then it would be PERFECT!

USB rechargable 9v battery...

Nice Work jedifyfe. It seems like the upper fingerhole part of the shoe is seperated. My plan is to rework the upper part complete with foam. Do you have plans like this too?

Thanks. No, the upper is actually made fairly well. Though its not foam, it seems to be a rigid formed liner. I am not sure why they separated the fabric at the top.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Brad your the man! Those photos help figure this out much easier for all the members planning these mods in the future, thank you so much for sharing them! I think I might use special paint and paint the bulbs then white paint on the board (quick fix) or make up new boards and start running a new lighting system where one switch can be implemented, therefore disregarding the v2 light setup completely.

Ideally we want the LEDs and el all off one switch and battery for our end result, it's just hooking it all up without taking the upper off the midsole.

Oh Props on finding those batteries they look hilarious but very impressive at the same time :D

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I did a little wet sanding to the bubbles, then hit it with a few sprays of some Matte Finish spray. It's as close to the original as I am going to get... :love

Brad, can I put in my modification order now for whenever I finally order a pair? :)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Sweet, looking good Brad!

I took your advice and decided to get stuck into the heel cups, I had two options... Paint the LEDs or make new boards, well.. I thought if I paint them and it doesn't work then i'll just have to make new boards anyway.

I carefully ripped them apart as brad clearly explained(again a massive thanks for that) and then got some acrylic red paint I had and seriously it worked tremendously, see pics below.

I will go tomorrow and get yellow and green paint to finish(also white to paint over the lettering on the stock v2 led board). As you can see when the lights are on its undetectable there is paint on the bulbs, apply a even coat, if not you will see streaks, I would advise to anyone doing it this way to get a few clear LEDs and practice painting them before commencing.

So happy about this fix and seriously would not have been possible without Brad's help, we are blessed to have you working on these :)

One question though Brad, did you yet again use loctite glue for sticking the heel cup back on :confused

Hah, Taff, that was a good idea!!! The problem I for see is that the wires of the ankle lights run into the PCB and the battery will not have enough power to run the LEDs and EL, so you will have to use your Li ion battery which may cause problems with these LEDs.

Yep. I am loving this Loctite. It rules.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Thanks! haha glad you like my sneaky fix, its good for those wanting to do a easy fix and it looks 100 times better than the clear bulbs.

Ye, it's only a temp fix so I can go out in them and wear them basically every day, I will no doubt stick to the v2 USB charger for te LEDs and my dc port for el, sounds bad I know but for everyday use I don't really care how I charge them its the overall look that I want lol.

Nearly bought a real pair of mags today for £2,000... Damn this wedding stopping me but can I ask, do you not think doing these mods has given you a hunger for the real ones? I don't know why I feel like this :confused

Ah loctite glue again, woohoo :D

Not at all. I actually like the freedom of being able wear these out and not worry about them. Also, I just never felt the real MAG's were worth the price they were getting. I actually had $3000 in my Paypal and bid on a pair up to $2500 and lost them for $2800 and felt relieved that I didn't win them.

I have used Loctite liquid glue (not gel) exclusively on these shoes.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Here's the suckiest part about modding these. There is NO WAY to move the on/off button up into the white "ears" and still have a clean look. So I am keeping my button on the back but I swtiched out the button for a less "touchy" one.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Noway! That is some story, I dunno why I feel like I want a real pair but you are 100% right, if I did have a pair I wouldn't even wear them, for $250 I am getting the most out of my money :)

Ye I use the liquid, it's bloody good stuff eh? I keep glueing my fingers together though lol that stuff is super fast to dry!

So after you do the straps(which I am only assuming you are waiting Cloneprops ankle buckles to arrive) what will you do next?

I plan on getting this switch sorted out then finally the toe fix, it's still freaking me out, so much infact I might buy a pair of trainers/shoes with fabric material and attempt toe fix's on them lol.

I have a plan for the switch.. Lets cut it and hide it on the inside near the front Velcro under te fabric so it's not uncomfortable when the shoe is on and out the way of being pressed also accessible without taking the buckle off
