Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Thanks man. If you get folds or creases in the Mags, you can iron them out as well. I used the iron on the toe box to iron out a crease as well has the ankle area. It works perfectly.

you know once the leds in the soles are removed. did you have to stick a thin strong sheet over the gaps, before gluing the el cutouts ? or just glue the el cutouts straight over the existing gaps since the EL cutouts seem bigger?

I inserted the EL between the midsole and the clear sole. I don't get glue anywhere near the EL. Glue will ruin the EL. Just glue the soles back to the midsole and the EL will stay in place.

You had also asked about glueing the battery in the soles. I don't do this either. My batteries need to be changed therfore I don't glue them in. Even the batteries that come with the shoes are loose. When I had a chance to see S02s shoes, I noticed the he had glued the battery holder into place. This cause the batteries to have to flex with the walking instead of the entire battery connector being able to move. So what happens is that the terminals of the batteries become weak and loose, causing poor connections and the lights to go off.

Don't over think it.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Hey Brad, for those of us that are going to try to do the whole conversion, which LEDs and resistors are you using that are small enough, the right shape, and work with the 9v?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Buy 3mm diffused LEDs and use 10 ohm 1/2 watt 5% resistors withe color coding (black, black, brown)...eBay is a great source for the resistors

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Make sure you wire them in series too.

Edit...You will use less current that way.

Cool, thanks

Are you going to wire a DC Charger to the battery?
I was thinking of adding a tiny DC port which can hang out of the back next to the new switch like you did, so you can simply charge it using an adaptor.

And get a 9v rechargeable battery.

Seems like a good idea, a total replacement of the crappy V2 electronics, put in the custom one, add in a dc charger port, and we are good to go.

I would like to be I am not well versed with the recharging port and diode system. Also, you would need to find the best rechargable 9v. A lot of the rechargable 9v only produce 8.4v and they drain quicker.

Jedifyfe, judging by time differencs etc., I am concerned that you haven't been to bed in the last 24 hours!? That's dedication... :lol

LOL! If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep right away, my iPad is next to me bed with the RPF waiting for me... :lol:confused

WOW! They look exactly like RD's. I really think that flattening down the laces was the last 'flaw' in these. So now they're so on point! :cool

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Yep I agree great job Brad..... They look awesome.

Right enough dilly dallying from me I'm getting the credit card out and ordering a pair. I need to have a pair.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Holy smokes they look amazing there! Thanks for sharing the pics :)

I was going to iron out the laces but the inverter arrived so I have been working on the 3v system as promised, good news is I have everything running off 3.7v battery and 3v inverter bad news is I'm too knackered to go through it all just now and need some sleep, Don is right though wire the LEDs in series as I have always done and use 1x100ohm resistor. Only thing I need to sort now is the switch as the inverter switch is interrupting the switch I have made up.

The LEDs do not lose brightness as I tested with and without inverter and panel.

Hope the pics do this justice and tomorrow when I can figure out the switch ill make up a diagram to explain it all but it's basically no different than the diagram Brad did for the MP's ages ago :)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

My god brad!
They look so much like RD mags even for the trained eye!
They look so lovely in natural light. Most of our pics have been on tables with knives and wires all over the show haha!

great. so 3.7v battery with EL Strap and EL Sole with a 3v inverter and 12 leds in series is possible? sounds great.

how long do you think they would last?

if the battery is 1800mh (ps3 battery), surely it must last a few hours?

For the V2, since the buckle is too small to hold anything, it means a cloneprops buckle is required, otherwise the only other way is to put the battery in the sole.

I suppose, you could add the dc charging pin if using the ps3 battery inside the v2 sole.

Then you have a fully chargeable wiring setup.

If possible, could you post up a picture again of how to wire the leds in series?

thanks

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Thanks everyone. Yes these look nearly dead on to the real MAG's. I am very happy with them. They look even better in person, if you can believe that.

Good work Taff. I would love to see exactly how its set up and what items you used to make the circuit.
