Jedifyfe, did you take all old wires out and start again or did you reuse some?
Also still worried about laces and how to thin them out
If you do a tutorial on that it would be appreciated

I installed all new wiring. From top to bottom. The existing wiring is crap and will break or fail eventually. I use 22 gauge braided core wire.

You can't get the laces too flat. The flatter, the better.

So I was thinking of the yellowing solution... would headlight cleaner work on the soles? I've seen them at auto part stores but haven't really checked em out

On the yellowing, has anyone had good success with Armor-All type dashboard/rubber/vinyl protectant products that supposedly have UV inhibitors in them? I guess the problem is even if you apply it to the soles, only time will tell if it works.

For the fabric, I was just looking at something completely unrelated and stumbled upon this video: Liquid Glass Shield Demonstration Video - YouTube

Looks more promising than that stuff from Home Depot or Lowes that they say dries milky. Also, not sure if it's any better than scotchguard.

Is there any way to avoid the EL panel separating slightly on the edges in the sole? I have experienced massive spotting while cutting numerous EL panels, and the panels that cut correctly and cleanly with no black spots, I installed in the sole of my V2's but during minimal wear they have spotted in several places.

Any help is appreciated...

Also the eBay hookup wire I bought is flimsily and weak. The wire breaks before the solders even have a chance to move! And I can't replace it because its in places that I don't want to take apart. But this is a problem I can figure out. The EL panel is what gets me. I know everyone else doesn't seem to have this problem though...

You can try brushing super glue around the edge and that will normally keep it from happening. And as for fixing the spots that have already happened ironing them on low will fix the spots a good bit, not perfect but will be a lot better. Just don't iron directly against EL put a sheet of paper between and keep checking to make sure the iron isn't actually melting anything.

Ok thanks for the help. I was kind of frustrated earlier but I still have two more pairs sitting in my closest I'm going to mod, I will try all suggestions you gave on my forthcoming EL in sole mods...

All tips are welcomed and appreciated!

All worth it in the end...

So far I've only got the grey part figured out. The collar still needs sizing, I've got it wrong twice. The first time it was too big, second time it was too small. Its because the seams need some extra room before stitching and its hard finding out just how much they need

Did the Toe Mod yesterday. Biggest PIA to separate the upper from the midsole. Wasn't able to get it cleanly separated from the midsole. But everything that was ripped got hidden when glued. So worked out in the end.

Heres the final toe.

For those that have removed the soles to instal EL panels. How did you go about doing it? Having a hard time getting it to remove cleanly.

Also I cant seem to remove the old electronics circuit board from the bottom of the shoe. It glue in extremely well. Do I need to just hit it with heat?

Just run a butter knife around the clear sole with a hair dryer and then you can instal the EL panel. As for getting the old electronics out cut all the wires and then remove the components with pliers works for me.

So doing your own colorway? Nice :)

Yep. I collaborating with a very talented shoe customizer that will paint the upper, the collar, the strap, ankle buckle, tint the clear soles and strip the blue splatter off. Just wait...

awesome!
it would be great if you could find out which actual paint would work best on the grey midsoles from your customiser!

i'm pretty sure the midsoles are some sort of polyurethane rubber, so I guess a polyurethane type of paint is considered the best so that it won't flake.

I'm tempted to make a custom pair, but haven't been sure on which paint would be ideal to respray the entire midsoles.

The splatter you already solved with the enamel paints, but the actual grey midsole to be resprayed without cracking is the main one to figure out.

That would be great to do, some customisations.

Mache? kickasso? Either of those guys should turn out nice. Don't even wanna know how much they would charge though. But considering both have done real nike mags and wouldn't be worried about them screwing them up lol

I've been wanting to put EL behind the NIKE logo. I wonder if you can sew through EL?
