NIKE MAG Knockoffs

UPDATE: Further refining of the patters - will I ever finish this?

nike-mag-patterns-nike-mag-patterns-revision-14.jpg-136893d1358140959

The challenges I have had along the way include (but certainly not limited to) shrinkage due to sewing and folding, hidden seams and the joining of said seams.

So I have taken parts and broken them down into smaller parts to hopefully allow this to happen with greater success.

From the top left:

Foot bridge (re-worked)
Inner and outer liners that are now cut down (new)
Inner collar liner (new)
Tongue
Heel Cup (needs further work)
Cuff stuffing (re-worked)
Cuff (re-worked)
Outer shell (re-worked)
Inner Sole

Thanks, I'm quite annoyed with the stain, i feel like i've failed in life xD!
Damnit!!

I raaaally want the soles and mid soles of clonepropes, so I could make a more accurate version of the shoes xD

Otherwise, I'm making a black version of the MP version, hopefully it will work out, it's almost impossible to colour this material -_-

Do you guys know the material of the grey sole? I would like to make it white, do you know what would be the best to make it white? Bleach? Paint Spray? Thanks :)

Best thing I could advise is instead of trying to dye it (I believe it's either nylon or neoprene which is near impossible to colour) tear apart the shoe and map out the form to use as a stencil for some new material. So basically just making a whole new shoe form.

The sole is rubber. I think bleach would work, not tried it. If you're only going to use the shoes for display then paint them. For rugged use I think the only option is to make a cast and do your own moulds

Its time to go Hollywood here is my Custom (L and R) laminated for water proofing /inner images of MJ. Fox and the DOC plus both car plates for my clear soles almost done /next is the L.E.D's for the heel cups then i will mold the heel cup or depending on cost if to much i will buy a pair from Cloneprops but this is ,for sure a timeless project .......

Can you shed more light (yes pun intended :) ) on this?

It look like you have used some form of high reflective material to enhance the light output.

I was thinking of adding LEDs to my soles and hoping the 3M reflective tape I used will catch the light.

Being totally over stabbing and cutting myself hand stitching, I broke out the sewing machine again. The problem right now is I need to source needles with larger holes because that #20 thread is almost as large as the needle shaft. So I used to the original upholstery thread ($6/100m) I used back when I first began making these shoes.

When I have been hand stitching, I would cut out the shape of each part and sew over the edge. In this case, I have decided to sew the sheets together and trim after the parts are sewn.

These are also made using the revised patterns above and it seems that extra size on the collar is working out.

looking great!

ps, what other sneakers are you wearing, they look proper good retro!

Thanks airair :)

The other shoes are retro Jordan 8s. We have a NIKE factory outlet a short drive away and they get in stock from stores that did not sell and they sell it off really cheap - like listed at $280, sell for $130.

These are all genuine NIKE/JORDAN. I guess not too many Aussies were into hi-tops :unsure because there was so many of these shoes when I got mine.

Sometimes there is further manager discount. I got two pairs of these Jordan 8 shoes for $108/pair.

A few years ago I got Jordan 20 shoes for $100, again because no one was paying 280 at retail for them. Each week, the price on the 20s came down and once I saw them for $100, I had to buy a pair.

they look great!
i just love the vintage look on sneakers.
especially the white/grey coloured ones.

top find!

I never liked the original 1993 Jordan 8s which were mainly black and made from a synthetic material. These are mostly leather and white with reflective grey (that part is synthetic). They kind of reminded me of the Air Pressures I had back in the 1990s.

The lacing system (X-Straps) is really cool. I took the shoe laces out because the straps hold my foot quite firmly without them and they can be done up/undone in seconds. i had thought about borrowing the idea for a pair of MAGs aas well.

This is my solution to making a custom Heel Cup. In the past I have made these parts rigid from Vac Forming. Because the part needs to be flexible, I came up with this.

Hey Cavx,
Though I appreciate your build and updates, can you limit your posting the same images to just one thread? It is making these other threads LONG and I know you have at least 2 other threads of your builds.
