A friend and I decided we needed an easier way to move the x-wing goggles up and down and came up with the following solution:
We created an I shaped slide which rivets to the lens and then gets fitted between two plastic clamps which allow it to move back and fourth. The lens stays in the up and down position using the force applied to it by the clamps and curve of the inner dome.
I have a few pictures of the parts we created and will try to update this post with more if I retrofit any other helmets. I will also attach a picture of the lens attached to my version of the Wedge ANH helmet.
Clamp:
Dome Markings:
I-Slide:
Make the clamps by overlapping two pieces of 1/2" plastic. After they have dried use a heat gun, or your preferred heat source to shape the plastic to the curve of the dome. The clamps should be approx 2" long.
The I-slide can be made using this template:
Once you have these parts made have someone help you align them to the center of your dome, make sure the rivets in the lens stop above or just below the edge of the dome. Once marked, glue 1 clamp down, hold the I--Slide in position then glue down the second clamp. After they have dried you may want to rivet the clamps to the dome. Make sure to use the same thickness plastic for the slide and the clamps or it wont hold tight enough to the dome and it will flop around.

This is my first project post so I hope people enjoy it and maybe even decide to use it. I will also be posting pics of my custom Royal Guard helmets later.
