New Voyagers Omni

He already did try that file, it was not usable. We created a sound from scratch that is indistinguishable from the sound used on the show because we used the same musical instrument they did. What you hear as a difference in your ear is all the noise and low quality recording of the original sound. No one wants a heavily processed sound effect that has had all the crispness and resonance crushed in a filter when a brand new identical sound can be created.
Okay I understand. That sounds logical.

I think it stands to reason for the red / green light sounds. Get as close to possible as one can get using current technology. As you stated earlier there was some kind of variance on the sound of the Omni. It was never the same meaning identical on every episode watched. I know many want things to be screen accurate, but as Jintosh also pointed out physics comes into play in every show when it comes to sound. I am super stoke on the sounds and the video you shared. It brought back alot of memories of the show. Funny, action, drama and you learned a little history on each episode. Looking towards future updates thanks!

I’m almost positive that the red light sound effect is actually a Glockenspiel D6# or Tubular Bell D7# I am leaning more towards the Tubular Bell D7# Also I am musically inclined so I have a decent ear for this kind of stuff. I’d love to see what you think. Thanks so much.

Morgan tone matched the sound file.

Morgan tone?
Morgan, who owns Cosplay Light and Sound and is making the electronics, used music editing software to match the tone of the original sound effect to the recreated ones on the Korg Kronos synthesizer.

If you have a synthesizer of your own and you can create a video of you playing the sounds you think are correct and place them next to a clip from the show that would be better than telling me Tubular Bells, because that is likely a unique instrument on your synthesizer that I dont have on mine.

Edit to add, I tried finding a instrument Tubular Bells and I think the confusion is there is not really a instrument called Tubular Bells. Tubular Bells is the title of the song from the movie the Exorcist. The word Tubular refers to a set of chimes that are played while they hang from a frame.

Ah. I think thats the problem. Anyway if you or anyone else can record a sound that is better than what we have we would certainly use a better sound. So keep looking!

It's fortuitous that you feel the Red light sound is a D# in the 6th or 7th octave. So do we.

We don't know what instrument was used in the studio. It may have been a toy, or the two relevant notes may have been removed from existing instruments and a purpose-built homebrew instrument made just for Voyagers with the Red and Green sound. It was pretty common for foley (sound effect) studios to have at least one xylophone for cartoons or doorbells. We've listened to various metal xylophones including Glockenspiels and Celestes over the last 2 days from a variety of sources trying to get exactly what y'all want -- which is crazy as we already spent days comparing sounds in February 2024 and thought we had this licked.

I am going to take a whack at trying to do audio cleanup on the Salem Witch Trial episode and see if I can get clean loops of the Red Light sound. If I can get a tolerable loop, I will see about adding a selectable choice to the Omni replica.

For the red light light sound effect.
It did not have the right resonance. We went through every bell sounds today to see if there is any other sounds that might be closer than the Celesta is. So far none are better than what we already have. Again, if you record a sound that is, please send it to me

I am trying. My file isn’t attaching on here. I’ll try a couple other ways.

This shows how little I understand audio. I went to midi.city website, pulled up vibrophone, and hit a few keys, and except for pitch I thought it sounded similar. I have no ear for audio, clearly, it's probably way off from the Voyager's audio.
