New to RPF - Catwoman costume project

The zipper's not expensive at all, you just have whoever's making the suit put a heavy gauge zipper on it and then replace the pull with a ring, like mentioned earlier. If you need, I'm sure we could send you a ring along with your belt, just ask Wade.

The only problem with that is when making a close-enough is almost as expensive as the real thing and making the costume twice will put you on the street. I'm working on one right now on short notice that's running me as much as costumes I've spent over a year on, with a time limit to make matters worse.

If you really love the costume you're working on and you plan to wear it more than once - like to conventions and such, it IS better to do it right the first time because it's true that you end up spending more money in the long run with all the 'upgrades'. Sometimes funds or availability issues may prevent from doing it right the first time - if you're on a time budget. That's what happened with my Joker ensamble. What I got was the best you could get - at the time. There was a mad rush to get a good Joker costume done in time for Halloween. Now, over a year later, there are many NEW options for even better costume pieces, so in my case, I have to upgrade not because I didn't want to do it right the first time but because I couldn't do it.
You have all the time in the world to get this together (you need it by October!) so I think that gives you enough time to play around with ideas...

If that last sentence was intended for me, I actually need it by the end of February. I get what you mean about the availability. In my case, of the only two parts of the costume I still need, one is optional because there are two different versions in different episodes and I already bought the less cool looking version, and the other will cost the same amount of money no matter the quality, so I'll get it done right and not have to worry about upgrading. This one was one of those times where my lack of self control gets the better of me. I had no intention of putting the costume together, but then it was suggested that I may be able to do it and I go all out to finish it on short notice. Luckily it's turning out pretty well so far.

But yea, it's always good to allow lots of time for a project. I think the minimum I usually need to get something done right without being constantly stressed is 4 months.

That last sentence was referred to me. I am wearing the catwoman costume for this Halloween. I will also be re-wearing it for our honeymoon if we go to Comic-Con :0)

Haven't posted anything in a while.

Still waiting on my fabric swatches from the company I might have make my costume. My belt is currently being made. I still haven't found the right gloves...but I am willing to search until I find the ones the match more. The zipper thing I figured out. I am just going to buy a silver zipper that is thick and purchase a big ring pull from this one website I found. As far as the goggles go...that will probably be the hardest thing of all to find.

Your belt should be there by Friday.

Thanks again for the opportunity to make something new and interesting. I hope it works well for you.

Will be looking forward to photos of your project. You certainly have put a lot of work and research into it so far. Would like to see how it turns out.

I got it today. As soon as I saw that package I felt like a giddy school girl. It looks great and fits just where it should. You did a good job customizing it for me with the idea he came up with the floating buckle. I will get some pictures up of me wearing it asap.

I also received my fabric swatches. I will take a picture of that as well and you all can give me your opinion.

I haven't this link till today. I would love to have goggles like that. Just not creative enough to do it myself.

You might surprise your self. Get a cheap pair of sunglasses and some sculpting epoxy and see what you can do. The arms can be removed and wire rings fabbed to fit the screw holes with elastic sewn to that for the head band.

If you haven't found your fabric yet you might want to try this site http://www.denverfabrics.com/ they have a wide selection and they will send out swatches too. Another option is to have someone you know and/or trust that lives out in here in LA hit the fabric district for you and try to find your fabric for you. I've been there a couple of times and there are tons of stores with boatloads of fabrics and I can practically guarantee you that with time and patience you'll almost certainly find what you're looking for there, but that requires someone living in LA who knows what you need to find it for you.

At any rate, best of luck with your costume and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I've randomly checked some of the stores I've been in the last few times Ive gone up there and haven't found anything close.

I was actually thinking about trying something like that for the hell of it just to see. Where can you purchase sculpting epoxy?
