New Thor Costume concept art!

I completely agree, TMP. The concept artists and the costume designer ought to be ashamed. They can design a costume with more Norse influence that can stand beside Iron Man...they just didn't for some reason. ><

Darth Mule, I respect costume designers that still draw and paint by hand way more than the digital methods. Look at Julie Taymor.

While I also have great respect for old school methods I see no problem with doing it digitally, chances are that they started as pen & pencil drawings before doing the digital mockup. The nice thing about the digital mockup method is that once you've pretty much settled on a design it allows you to get a better idea of what it look like for real once it's all done. I'm betting that that these mockups weren't done by the costume designer but by another artist based on the original drawings done by the costume designer and these are probably specifically designed to show the public more than anything else although they might be also used for the costuming dept. to work from.

Absolutely TMP! You raise a whole new idea that should have been considered when creating this costume.

The more I look at it the more I realize what a fundamentally crappy design it is. Nothing was considered in the translation other than the look of the comic character from the waist up.

There is another screenshot of the costume that is the same as the one posted by dualedge that shows Thor's legs with the same armor as his arms.

... Its like we will make ***** into a Swede with blong long hair looking like Bjørn Borg the tennisplayer and pretending that could be very likly to plauseble.

PwaHa!! Not sure whether you were being ironic here or not. But Isn't that just what western Christianity did with the image of ***** anyway?

If you have good rendering skills, you should be able to show the costume as well as a digital rendering. I like digital rendering when its original and with personal style. I've seen some really cool ones like that. The big thing for me is that I don't like it when the costume designer lets the concept artist or illustrator do all the work for them. They just end up being glorified costume coordinators. :)

They already did that in the 60's. Anyone remember Max Von Sydow in THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD?:lol Being half Danish I agree with you. I can live with the design, but wish they'd done more of a Nordic influence. He should at least look like the gods the Scandanavians worshipped.

Actually TMP makes a good point here...
A new reworked pic then... Nothing radical, but still...:)

That looks so much better than the original, I like the subtle use of Norse motiffs all over the armor, it really helps sell the whole Norse god thing to me. You should send it to Marvel and see if they can't be convinced to change the costume to match before they go into production.

Gotta change the boots first though. Give him something more moccasin looking. If you want fancy ones, those Legend of the Seeker/Hercules/Xena type... Seriously... Motorcycle boots? For real?
