Xmen, Batman, Fantastic 4, even Superman's new suit had a more modern, detailed look to it. They look better on camera. The simple fact is while a superhero suit looks great in a comic book when it's stretched over enormous hand drawn muscles, the real life suit over a real person would look silly and spandex-y. Look at Christopher Reeve's suit...it was cool then, but it looks incredibly dated now. Suits like this seem more based in reality...space age materials we can't have, but we imagine they would have in the comic book world.
Another thing to think about (same with the Cap concepts shown yesterday) is that they are digital paintings. They may look pretty real and were probably painted over photos of the actors but a lot of the odd textures and material looks is due to the overly crisp digital nature of the concepts.
I'm holding out final judgements until I see some high res real world shots of the actual costume.
Not all true and a very flawed argument. Not all of them look better on camera. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should and some of these choices they make are running against the basic laws of costume design. For instance, the materials of Thor's costume should reflect those available in Asgard, so unless the Norse heaven has a slew of latex slingers at its disposal... You get the point.
Also, I disagree that the spandex is always a bad choice. Some of these characters (like Supes and Spidey) can pretty much only be done in spandex without looking just plain wrong and the new movies support that. They may have used a dye technique to texturize them, and put raised webbing on spidey, but they are still very clearly spandex suits.
You'll have to forgive me, i don't know about Thor's history, but i'm sure the movie will have a costume design for the 'flashback' or 'origin' scenes. What you see above is probably what you'll see in scenes that take place in the present. I can only imagine how silly a fuzzy booted, tunic wearing hero would look standing next to modern tech like iron man. I know he's a god and all, but modern times = modern suit.
I'm not a fan of these over-photoshopped character designs. What ever happened to picking up a pencil and drawing?
does everyone know the story/script they went with. This Thor seems more like the newer version. Correct me, but Asgard gets rebuilt in the desert in the new books and all the Norse have to be found and have to remember they are Norse Asgardians? And Thor doesn't wear a helmet in the new version a whole lot I guess. not sure...
Why does everything have to be in America?? :confused :confused :confused :confused :confused
As Norwegian i feel this is like trowing dirt in or history and the Scandinavians.. I dont mind them wanting to make a story about TOR the Viking goods, but if they first play with the charracter then please do him Justice storywise..
Building Åsgard in the arizona desert?confused
The Asguardians with fur and leather wear comming from a Nordic enviroment... Wow talking about rally changing the story of a NORSE God... Its like we will make ***** into a Swede with blong long hair looking like Bjørn Borg the tennisplayer and pretending that could be very likly to plauseble. I KNOW... I am comparing the extreme, but this is our heritage and our history that is beeing messed with and twisting it all arround.
