New RPF Sites Issues - CLOSED (please search for or start a thread for new issues)

When viewing my activity, I would rather see a list of the threads I'm subscribed to, instead of a list of every new post. I often like to check threads I'm subscribed to even if there is no new activity. But now I have to scroll through a flood of posts from every thread in order to find the most recent post on the thread I'm looking for.

I don't know how viable an option that is, but we will look into it.

No real bugs other than some overlap issues already mentioned.

My only concern is whether we'll be able to lock the banner at the top of the page to keep a certain picture or have a work friendly version that doesn't automatically scream, "I'm looking at Star Wars, Superman, GI Joe, etc...instead of working".

Loving the new look. It will just take some time to adjust.

Thanks for all the hard work!

To the best of my knowledge, there will be no way to lock the banner at the top of the page. It simply randomly picks from a selection of images.

This is kinda nit picking, but I think the font size for the Join Date and Message Count could be a little bigger. I also think the threads with unread posts should have a brighter color, maybe blue, rather than dark grey vs light grey for read and unread threads.

Here's a better reason to instate it: Say someone replied to me in a thread, but I haven't been able to check the forum due to other obligations. This keeps me away from the forum for a week. When I finally get back, I have a flood of comments/posts from several dozen threads. I would have to scroll through all of them in order to find the reply that is waiting for me. It would be easier to find that reply if I could go directly to the thread where it was posted.

Another reason: Sometimes a thread becomes uninteresting, but not so much that I want to unsubscribe. I tend to check it every now and then for interesting activity. But now I have to scroll through a flood of posts from other threads in order to find the last post from the thread in question.

It was extremely fast and convenient the way it was before. It's better to prioritize by thread, rather than by individual posts, which now looks like a Twitter feed with a jumble of topics.

To summarize: Conversations are being drowned with the new format.

EDIT: Nevermind, this question has already been answered. I didn't see the page numbers of the thread because they are blended in with the report post, therefore I only saw the first page of the thread.

Art,

I am a premium member and I am able to minimize the side bar, but every time I click on a new sub forum, the ads are back and I have to minimize them again. Is this the new norm, or will they stay hidden the whole time I am on the site once you guys are done?

You won't once we are done.

If you mean the sidebar, they are there, but Premium members should be able to minimize the sidebar.

If we forced Premium Members to see ads, what would be the point of Premium Membership?

Another convenience that is now missing: Unsubscribing from within the Activity page.
Now I have to visit the thread I want to unsubscribe from.

It is. We moved the ads from the top of the page, in to the threads themselves so they are more integrated into the site.

Ahh no worries. Site looks nice, take a bit to get used to the navigation but I like :thumbsup

Edit: Is it just me or does it seem like there are less topics per page? Maybe just a setting I can change?

I second everything red4 is saying about the way subscriptions are now being presented. The way it was before was way more convenient to use, now it's just a jumbled mess that is more trouble than it is worth to navigate.

No you can still unsubscribe from there

I'll echo a few of the comments made already and make these suggestions:

  • Make links stand out more from regular text would help a lot.
  • Can anything be done about the giant scroller with the ad beside it at the top of the page? It takes up about half the screen real estate meaning you have to scroll a lot before you can even see the list of threads. The sidebar with ads is less annoying, but with both, it gets a little unpleasant.
  • For the menu at the top, how about opening it on hover rather than on a click? Expandable in terms of number items in the future, but no additional clicks required to access content.
  • Making the icon for threads posted in more visible would certainly help.
  • Creating a little more visual division between the topics in the list of threads would make those pages a bit easier to scan through as well. Reads a lot like a big block of grey with no easily visible links.

Represented in the screen shot below are some of the changes I thought could help make things easier to read. Hope you don't mind, just thought instead of just asking for changes, I could maybe help by giving you specifics for the change. Changes listed here:
  • .pagination span a (made the font-weight 600 as Century Gothic is notoriously tough to read at smaller sizes
  • body a (set the color to #880000 just to make the links stand out more...not that red is the colour you'd necessarily want)
  • .threadbit and .threadbit.attachments (set border-bottom to 1px #999 solid to create some division)
  • .threadbit .nonsticky, .threadbit .discussionrow and .threadbit .sticky (set bottom-padding to 3px just so the previously set border isn't touching text

Also, I hope I don't sound know-it-all-ish, but these changes should help fix some of the overlaps:
  • Share your Fandom button at the bottom should be fixed by removing the position: absolute on .below_threadlist .newcontent_textcontrol
  • bottom pagination overlap should be fixed by removing margin-top: -30px on .below_postlist .pagination_bottom .pagination

Oh, also there's no indication as to how full our inbox is...has the limit increased by chance? I am usually near max so knowing how full was always very handy.

Not sure if this is for everyone or not but Pm's just site they don't actually send, at least I don't think they do.

Also the ads can be minimized but every time you open a new page etc they are back.

The Profile page still needs some attention as far as padding/margins go. Nothing major, was discussed in the beta.
