New Muppet show?

"One Million Moms posted a lengthy plea on its official website, voicing the opinion that the new “Muppets” show, as opposed to previous incarnations, is “not suitable for family viewing” and should be protested. The advocacy group cites the program’s adult-themed humor as its main source of contention, pointing to jokes about “sex” and “drugs” as evidence. The organization even goes as far as to say, “ABC has ruined ‘The Muppets.'”

So, knowing nothing about that organization or having watched the first episode, anything to that? are these muppets not for kids?

I have a feeling that this show will take a bit to find its legs. I haven't watched the first episode yet, but from my experience with shows like The Office and especially Parks & Rec, it's really tough to get sucked into a 22-min comedy from literally one episode. For me, it usually takes around 3 to fully get me invested.

A couple of things there. The short answer is: no. Nothing to that.

A longer explanation: the Muppets are not Sesame Street. Kermit is the only crossover, and the Muppets where never squeaky clean. It was always full of innuendo, it's just that if you were a kid, most of it went right over your head.

In the first episode at least, it's the same way: plenty of Innuendo, but if your kids get it, then the cat was already out of the bag on that one.

example:
At one point they are at morning meeting, and Kermit says something like 'this is a meeting were at right now', and one of the band members from Dr Teeths band stands up and introduces himself...the other band members pull him down and say "Not that kind of meeting!" That was the most overt drug reference I remember seeing and frankly, I didn't think it was at all out of character. They've been implying that this was a drug addled band since the 70's...they were, in fact CREATED to parody a drug addled band. So really I saw nothing new. If you're kids already knew that people start AA by introducing themselves, then as I said: the cats out of the bag.

But secondly: For this reason and this reason alone, the muppets have made me feel young again. Every other show out there is like Two and a Half men and turns me into the crabby old man "Why do they have to be so vulgar? Why is every thing they say an overt dick joke? Humbug!"

Finally a show that lets me go back to my childhood of saying "It's not that bad, you're being sticks in the mud"

feels good. That alone is enough to make me like this show.

From that ad i saw on tv it looks like the office with muppets. Probably going to be a pass for me, i'll juts get the box sets of the real muppet show. The problem with the variety show is that there aren't enough really talented people to be guests like there used to be.

100% this. when I flip past entertainment news shows.....all I See are no name reality people, social media people and fly by night music artists.

We have no real STAR POWER anymore.

I remember in the late 80s early 90s when they tried the muppet show again and introduced that puppet with the dreadlocks, it wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly good. They should have stuck to doing muppet movies.

I HATED Clifford just because he replaced Kermit for no good reason. of course, this was where Elmo started to rise too, so maybe Kevin Clash was gaining more power and got to be the host this time around.

Like me accidentally landing on mike and molly (first mistake) and seeing two characters in a mourge. one lady lifts the sheet off a corpse and says, 'Have you ever seen a **** bigger than that in your life?' and the other jst kind of sits there staring. THAT is comedy these days? no wonder I don't watch much tv

This. I enjoyed it, but with this kind if show it's hard to really know anything from one episode.

I liked it a lot. Seems very aimed at the folks who were kids with the original Muppet Show, while still being silly enough on its face for today's kids to watch.

Not a bad start. It's always good seeing everyone. Agree that it will take a few episodes before it finds out what it wants to be--for better or worse. I see what the Million Moms are carping about, but it's not like 2 Broke Girls where every other line is a dick joke shoved in your face. It's a nice balance of adult/kid stuff.

It's Greg the Bunny recreated with real Muppets.

I'm okay with this. As long as they actually bring Greg and Warren the Ape onto this show at some point.

episode 2 was much better than one, now that it needed no setup. but man, some of those replacement voices HAVE TO GO.
They need a new one for Fozzie. I don't know if it'sthe same guy doing fozzie AND piggy, but where as Piggy got better over the years, fozzie is still the same as when he started out. he drops out of the voice way too much and it really makes you miss frank oz, where as with piggy, you don't notice it as much.

the newsman voice is TERRIBLE. it's like they wheren't even trying . Bill Barreta can replicate jim henson well enough for dr.teeth, why not the news guy?

I also can't help but wonder if they are writing some of these scenes with meme's in mind ;o)....they have to know how popular the kermit tea one is by now ;o).

The second show was decent enough. Liked the Fishburne cameo. I'll keep watching. Always nice to spend some time with the boys.

The voices don't seem to bother me. The only thing I'm missing is more comments from the balcony.(or audience in this show)

After all these years Fozzy still makes me laugh. I wish MR would have put him out. I'd love to have a full size Fozzy.

episode three wasn't bad.....

problem with this show is that it isn't really laugh out loud funny.. it's just kind of smile a few times funny...I feel like they are playing the humor very safe.....they don't go too far out there with the jokes, or take many chances with zany stuff. the problem with recent muppets post jim henson.
where is the comedy that takes weird chances, like this?

that's crazy funny originality ;o).

best part was probably the creepy IT guy (boy, they nailed that one...you try fixing people's computers all day, when they refuse to learn the simple stuff ;o))....and liam hemsworth dating scene.

The whole Fozzy under the influence had me laughing like crazy. The bit about Kermit being in the afterlife with him was great.

It's good to see miss Piggy getting her Comeuppance as well. One million Moms are in need of One million washing machines on spin cycle.

Now that I think of it, Clifford and Jar Jar Binks look kind of similar ...

http://www.thewrap.com/the-muppets-ratings-slide-but-kermit-still-has-tricks-up-his-sleeve/
ABC’s reboot of “The Muppets” has suffered a substantial drop in ratings since its strong premiere in September.
The mockumentary-style show opened to an impressive 2.9 rating in the advertiser coveted adults 18-49 demographic in addition to 9 million viewers according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers.
Unfortunately for the Jim Henson creations, things began to slide shortly thereafter. Week two saw the new comedy drop to a 2.0 rating and 5.8 million viewers. The third episode sank even lower to a 1.7 and 4.9 million viewers. This Tuesday’s episode got only a 1.3 and 4.5 million viewers. That is a 55 percent drop off in just four weeks.
