This stuff looks pretty cool. I'm sure the advertisments make it look a hell of a lot better than the actual product though.
I tried spraying a coat of triple layer gloss on a can of chrome spray paint and it dulled it down, big time. I must have misunderstood something, lol.
I've read reviews from other modelers and the results were not great, I've had Great results with Alclad II.
By simply buffing out the Primer, spraying that with a Gloss Black (Letting that dry really well), and then carefully spraying with an airbrush ... Alclad II. The stuff is great and can be polished unlike other paints that grey when you try to polish it...
These have been out for quite some time actually. We've had a ton of threads about "what's the best chrome paint" out there. The Alsa Killer Chrome spray works real well if all of the prep work is done properly. The cost of the Alsa paint is a huge deterent however, and AlClad II can be airbrushed, can be polished just as the Alsa paint, and costs considerably less so the AlClad II paint is far more the better choice.
Well unfortunately NONE of them keep their full luster when you overcoat them so they don't rub off when handling them. But more to your question is that you have to overcoat it if the item is going to be handled... sort of a catch 22 really....
I've always preferrred Bare Metal Foil for anything that needed to have that chrome look. Sometimes it can be a pain in the amount you need and what needs covered, but it consistently looks the best.
I've been using Alclad II for a long time and Never had problems with it trying to Rub-off.
Most people I know that use Alclad II a lot, tell me to polish the chrome and then spray on a clear-coat to protect the surface. Unlike most Chrome Paints, Alclad II will not Grey or Dull when you spray on a Clear-coat.
