New Floquil color pallet coming

Giving a heads up to the model communities.
A company called MCW paints, will start producing the old Floquil color pallet next month. These will be in enamel like the originals. Anyone who builds Star Wars models should know that ILM used Floquil enamel paints during their run.

Update- I've been informed that the old Floquil colors were lacquer based. MCW produces both enamel and lacquer paints so maybe we'll get a choice? I'll try to get more information.

Floquil paints back then were lacquer-ish dio sol based. Not enamel. MCW will be duplicating Archive-X’s effort but will be more toxic, being enamels. Archive-X is now acrylic.

There is a demand for enamels & lacquers. Archive-X decided to stop producing enamel versions. I have read numerous posts on the acrylic version not working well. So, another company is stepping up to fill a void in the market.

I have the entire line of Archive X acrylics and they are great color matches for the original Floquil paints. But, I would love a company to reproduce Floquil lacquers, as I still think that lacquers are the best for primers and base coats, with enamel washes and acrylics for detail and weathering layers. Besides, my supply of original Floquil paints is slowly diminishing and I would like to have some modern lacquer replacements!

Having more choices is a good thing!

I pretty much stick to enamel paints- they are what I am used to and I know how to make them dance. The acrylic paints I have tried do not work well with me- it might be some sort of learning curve but they do not seem to cover as well.

I still miss the Model Master paints- I have a dwindling supply of them and dread the day when they are gone

I'm not a fan of acrylics, myself. I've tried various ones and apart from using them on gaming miniatures I just don't like them for modelmaking. They're so delicate even after days of drying and with clearcoat. I've had to repaint models a few times now just from taking them to contests. I never had to do that with enamels.

That's the thing. Some of us prefer enamels & lacquers over acrylics. If you prefer acrylics, great. I can control enamels & lacquers far easier. I'm excited about this opportunity

I’ve bought plenty of floquil enamels over the last few years. The ones they discontinued a few years ago, so I guess it doesn’t matter that much to me. Yes, it would be nice to get something differently based than the acrylics available for those who want them.
