Just for fun. Was in Orlando last month and snapped the shot.

And a tip of the hat to the maker. Don't forget to keep clicking to get the full sized image.

Cool! Thanks for that!

I wasn't aware it had survived. Sorry if this is old news, but where in Orlando is it?

Planet Hollywood. Its hanging from the ceiling and s very difficult to photograph. That's why I wanted to share this photo - it came out nice. The man who built the model is a friend and board member.

Let's see, the oil company in the film is called "Benthic Petroleum"...

"Benthic Petroleum."

"B.P."

Where have I heard that before.

on the side of the tanker that explodes in twister

btw what ever happened to the minisubs (both full size and miniatures)

The Benthic Petroleum logo is also seen on gas pumps at an abandoned gas station in Terminator 2.

Nice picture PHArchivist. Thanks for sharing. I thought I had heard that this model was still around. The miniature work in The Abyss is as impressive as the CG pseudopod word and often doesn't get its due credit. I had an opportunity to meet Cameron a while back and I had to ask him to sign the cover of Cinefex (issue 39) that I had brought - He looked at me, smirked and said "you must be a diver," I nodded and then he commented that "only divers like that film." - I love the film and the featurette on the making of the film only made me appreciate the work more...

Great picture, loads of detail! Thanks for sharing. I love that film but ain't a diver (maybe one day). I'd be up for paying someone to visit the full scale in the cooling tower pond in Ohio if anyone is up for tresspassing job ;)

I designed the Benthic Petroleum logo on The Abyss... we used it on the patches for the guys up on the Benthic Explorer, it's on the side of the mini subs, and I think it's also on a hard hat somewhere.

Art Director Joe Nemec was on The Abyss, and when he went on to work for Cameron as Production Designer on T2, he used it on the sides of the gas pumps at the gas station in the film... After that, he went on to design Twister, and yes, they used it on the tanker.

I think I have the original art work for it somewhere. :)

The picture is superb, and very good for details. I hope someday to build ...
... Or small submarines.:rolleyes
Thanks for sharing the image.
