War Of The Worlds

In the 1953 George Pal film, the martian machines are obviously made from copper and were held by cables to stimulate flight. It is a shame that they no longer exist. However, I once heard that apparently the orange beam light on the swan neck was taken from a car? Is this true? If not, did it come from something else or was it custom made? Thank you.

From what I've heard at least some of the models still exist. Unsure whether it's the large close-up versions or the smaller ones... but they are not all gone, if I remember correctly.

The light definitely seem like a found part.

I dunno. Interesting question. It does look like it could have been an amber turn signal light from a car/vehicle. Or maybe a white light that was tinted yellow somehow.

The way it looks orange rather than yellow . . . maybe a red taillight housing + an amber-tinted bulb inside it?

But that approach might just come out looking like a less-bright red color, rather than looking orange.
