New Hasbro Toy Lightsabers

The New York Toy fair was a few weeks ago. That's where they usually announce all the cool stuff coming out this year.

That is not entirely true... at least speaking historically. The items at the NYTF mostly reflects items expected to be released in the first half of the year. They like to save items released for the rest of the year and usually through January 2013 (just prior to the next NYTF) to debut at San Diego Comic Com.

Gotcha. So we can probably expect nothing for the first half of the year then since nothing was shown at NYTF. ComicCon is not until the middle of July. Anything announced for the second half of the year probably wont come out until 3rd or 4th quarter.

probably a good bet on nothing this part of the year.

July is the start of the 3rd Quarter so you often see items coming out at or soon after.

Not to mention that some of their Force FX releases have been VERY low key with only one or two sources reporting on them.

I finally got the Qui-Gon Jinn saber. First, the hilt is a wee bit big, in both diameter AND length. Hopefully it's just an anomally, and not a developing trend in the Ultimate FX line. Additionally, compared to the other three, the blade is longer by about an inch. Not as cool as I'd hoped, but what're you gonna do?

Well, I'll just have to wait 'til August for the Obi TPM. Still on the fence about the Maul. Maybe they'll anounce something even cooler at Comicon or some other third quarter event.

In case you're interested, Target's Sunday ad had a coupon for 50% off one Star Wars item (excluding Legos). Now would be a good time to get one, if you haven't already.

Dunno if this idea has been thrown around yet, but anyone think it would be possible to buy one of these relatively cheap toy sabers and take them apart and put the blade assembly inside a cheap hardware custom saber?

that sounds like a really cool idea..

Sure can, but I would visit custom saber shop for info on how to build an awesome saber using the sfx board out of one of these sabers.

That what I did and I couldn't be happier.

I should have gotten that Anakin saber at half price while I had the chance! I've already bought a basic Obi ROTS (with the "flick out" blade) to scavenge for some parts and create a DIY Ultimate FX Obi. Well, maybe next time they're on sale.

The Qui Gon Jinn saber finally hit my Walmart here...And I have to say...It's fairly tempting! It will probably be the first Hasbro saber I buy. A treat after finals week, as it were! :D

For those interested, you can see images of the Ultimate FX Maul at SDCC...

But curiously the Obi TPM/AOTC is nowhere to be seen (apart from an illustration on the back of the Maul packaging). Now that the projected month of release (Aug) is approaching, any word on the actual day/date?

And it has been reported over on FX Saber forum that Hasbro has no future plans for the Force FX line. Nothing in the works for this year and nothing planned for the foreseable future. It would appear that Hasbro took over the license simply to steal the technology without investing in research themselves, simply to make cheap plastic crap.

I can't make out the image on the back but it looks to me that it is picture of the current offered Obi ROTS/SW:CW saber.

They could still do that version next year. I am assuming that they do a line of AOTC toys in 2013 in conjunction with the AOTC 3D theatrical release... the same way they did TPM toys this year.

They don't offer an FX style Obiwan ROTS saber....
