New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Sorry to go back a few seasons, but I'm still catching up.

I watched "The Poison Sky" tonight (series four, I think), and the Doctor puts on a gas mask when he's outside with UNIT. He looks at the commander and says "Are you my mummy?" I just about fell out of the chair I was laughing so hard (that first series episode is one of my favorites) :) I wonder if they scripted that, or it was just David Tennant having fun?

New series (season) means finally new who.

Thoughts on the new episode?

I liked Jenna Louise Coleman though I thought reports said she was the new companion? Maybe the Doctor goes back in time to save her before crashing on the planet? I know it would be a paradox but she seemed like a very strong character, sucks to loose her after only one episode.

I reckon that the series could get weird. But the episode was pretty cool, I personally loved it.

Coleman was good in the role, and assuming Mr Moffat pulls a trick on us, she'll be a companion that'll keep the Doctor in check.

She is (the new companion, that is.) Moffat's clearly got some kind of shenanigan up his sleeve.

Wow,an episode of Dr Who that I really enjoyed! First in a long time. I was happily surprised by the high quality of this episode ,it felt like a pretty old school story but with universally upgraded effects. The opening sequence on Skaro though brief, looked superb, along with the T1000 Dalek borg. Similarly the Dalek parliament was very impressive, particularly as it showed just how awful the "new" daleks looked against the old, and happily we saw lots of the older models in this story. I played spot the Dalek and I was delighted with just how many I remembered. Some of the corridor / intensive care scenes were genuinely creepy, particularly with the Rory "Eggs? what eggs?" sequence where they got the Dalek starting up sound spot on.I actually shivered at the memories!
Amy and Rory? Well, they didn't bring much to the tale except a "How Daleks saved my marriage " side story that was very contrived.Karen has certainly come on as an actress as she convinced with her pain and tears , but realistically I don't think any man would have been too upset to have been married to a lass like Amy and not be able to have kids.
Jenna louise Coleman ? Super smart in a very Cat Womany way, which could make for a difficult but interesting companion. How will she be returned to the series I wonder? Way too perky and clever but the inspired twist at the end, not just one but two, the last one being one of the best links to the last series I've seen written yet. Very, very good indeed!

I really enjoyed that. Few things that bugged me, one being not enough screen time for the classic Daleks. Just a small point for me though. I'd like to hear them address the 2005 Daleks hanging around the Paradigm Daleks as well. I really enjoyed the trick ending there too. Nice reboot to the Daleks and YAY for series name drops!

Few other things, anyone notice the new metallic paint schemes for the Dalek Paradigm? Not straight red but a dark metallic red, same with the blue one that I barely spotted. I think (though due to lighting can't say for sure) that the Supreme was even silver instead of straight white. They look a LOT better. Lots less Ikea and much more like something metal. Very nice redress that really improved the Paradigm Daleks.

Next episode looks a bit goofy though...hmmm...not sure what to make of it but hey, it's not like the show was NEVER goofy in the past.

I can't wait to see how they bring Jenna Louise Coldman back as the companion. I think she is a great replacement for Amy.

I didn't like the over use of "Doctor who?" being said by the Doctor.

I see a lot of people are assuming that the companion played by Jenna-Louise Colman will be the same person we saw in Asylum. I'm not sure this had to be the case.
For a start the character was called Oswin Oswald and the media is saying the companion will be called Clara, so they may simply be related.... although Moffat probably has a bigger twist than that in mind.

As to the re-paint on the paradigm Daleks, I'm looking at my pull-out poster from the Radio Times and it clearly shows a metallic red on the drone, so I'd assume (much to the fan's relief) that they've all had a re-paint.
