Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER
The MOST IMPORTANT reveal last night was that Canton removed any
subtly and stated he is gay.

Nixon: "This person you want to marry...black?"
Canton: "Yes."
Nixon: "I know what people think of me, but perhaps I am a little more liberal...
Canton interrupting: "
He is."
Nothing else matters cause the whole show and all the plot lines were
were just about getting to that declaration.
This all gets back to Matt Smith who just played gay for BBC Two's
Christopher and His Kind in the U.K,
because the gays are taking over, speaking as one myself.
On a more serious note, I found it interesting that I am still not sure
whether or not Rory is "plastic" since he remembers the 2000 years
waiting for Amy per the Doctor's questions to him last night. Maybe
all those memories fused when the Doctor set things right and sealed
the cracks?!?!
I tend to think it is River in the space suit at the beginning,
because of all the reasons already stated in this thread.
I find it interesting that when she kissed the Doctor
back at the prison near the end of the episode she commented after
the Doctor stated, "There is a first time for everything," she responded
(after he closed the door) "And a last."
I also really like the idea of her shooting at herself from the beach, too.
Of course, I am usually wrong when it comes to Doctor Who and outcomes.
I did love this two parter!
Oh, and off topic, @0neiros, we'll have to disagree about Dumbledore.
The point is not to make him gay retroactively, which I don't think JK did,
it is simply a statement that adds insight and a little bit of inclusion for
a group that had been rendered largely invisible in mainstream culture
until Stonewall and unfortunately the AIDS epidemic started breaking
down the closet doors.
We've reached a point now where inclusion is just what it is...
If you want to call that "spot the gay," then fine, as someone who
is old enough to remember not seeing any gay character on
any show, ever, for my first 15 years of life, fine. (And only having
Steven on
Dynasty at the age of 16 was hardly a reason for celebration.)
This is the first openly stated gay character in Moffat's
time heading up Doctor Who. One character after an entire season is not
too much. What did you do to play "spot the gay" all last year?
Heck, the episode where the Doctor first encountered the Silence's
abandoned technology upstairs back in season one,
it would be hilarious if the guy living downstairs was gay.
Having the doctor as the new roommate could have added all kinds of fun and tension
in the relationship of that couple.
"Not every show has to have someone who is gay, or black, or asian etc. etc. etc."
If it is going to reflect reality, then at least 3% of the characters on
every show
could be gay. There seems like there are more than that on
some shows, but
not
every show, because heck, we're just more entertaining that you str8s!
Oh Please, he could be just be making a statement about changing his mind about getting married. Not every show has to have someone who is gay, or black, or asian etc. etc. etc. One of the funniest retro making someone gay to me was Dumbledore. Yeah, Yeah he's gay...that's the ticket, I meant for you to figure it out. it's not relevant in the least to the story.
BTW, Rory is HUMAN, the entire universe was set straight thanks to Amy. If Rory were plastic, she wouldn't be pregnant, as he'd be a walking condom. This will add an interesting dimension to the show, because like in Kill Bill II, she can't be as daring and cavalier, as she now has to think about protecting that life inside of her.
