I guess. I just can not stand her music, at all. Granted, she might be good though, depends on if she can act.
Agreed. Looks like she knows how to "act" in her persona, so we'll see.

Yeah, my initial thoughts on these things are "oh hell no" but Kylie turned out good and Catherine Tate was brilliant as Donna, so I'll wait and see.
Oh and a little off topic but kinda related:
Torchwood has been renewed for a 10 episode season. It'll be a partnership between the BBC and Starz. Jack and Gwen are both going to be starring in it and it'll be going all over the world apparently. It was confirmed by the BBC today. RTD will be head writer. I'm very excited by this news. Summer 2011 can't come soon enough.

Yes, let's not keep young people interested, so it can become old, stuffy, and boring and go out having outlived it's welcome. Many Singers have made good/great actors, give her a chance, her music has nothing to do with a Role she'll be playing.

As for the young audience it's obvious the whole reboot has been heading down that road, I'm not a big fan of it but I know it's business... You don't need to bring in tabloid celebrity actors to keep young people interested or keep it from becoming old and stuffy, that is just silliness...
I'm actually against bringing in any type of celebrity to any show just for ratings, and publicity... I find it cheap and simply don't like when it's done... I would much rather seen new fresh talent vs tabloid sensations... Same when any movie or TV show brings in a high dollar actor for a lead, I would rather watch a good production with no name actors vs leaning on a name to sell it...

Agreed. "Blink" with Carey Mulligan springs to mind.
I thought Vincent & The Doc was as perfect a Who ep as they come. Every scene, every bit of dialogue - all in place. genuinely moving but not cheesy.
This is shaping up to be my favorite season of the new series. I liked Ecc and Tennant but I don't miss 'em at all.
Given that, they have my faith in all casting decisions - celebrity or otherwise.

During the first series, my UK friends were *aghast* that Billie Piper was playing rose due to her reputation. I had no idea who she was and so approached her with no preconceptions and I think she did a hell of a good job.
I'll give GaGa a chance.

As for Gaga...well..i don't really see any specific need to get her in there if there's nothing she can bring to the table that another actress couldn't bring. Seems kinda publicity "stunt-ish" to me. Not that Who hasn't had it's fair share of established stars making appearances but...I can't think of too many "celebrities" of such notoriety being on the show. I dunno, I guess I'm saying that unless it winds up being the sort of thing someone else could have done or played then it will have been just a publicity stunt and may wind up hurting Who's credibility.

I truly miss David T as the Doctor as this new Doctor seems just a tad off. This season is just like series 1 new Doctor, Companion and Tardis. I am still trying to figure out why they added the ambulance decal on the other door. I also miss the carry over actors from one season to the next. Last nights episode was great but had a hard time with the Doctor calling Vincent Van Gogh as Gof I thought it was Go.
The St. John Ambulance Association sign is there because it was on the first Doctor's TARDIS; this being a kind of reset for the TARDIS after the damage it took in Tennant's last episode, so its external appearance is now similar to its earliest appearance. The window frames are white for the same reason.
Now as to why the St. John Ambulance Association sign was on the original TARDIS -- it's because it was on many of the original Police Boxes, to indicate that first-aid was available there as well as police services.

According to a book I read, it actually it rhymes with the German Ach sound. Van Gach is how the descendants of his family (presumably through his brother Theo) still pronounce it.
Bill Nighy was pronouncing it right during the first part and most of the last part, although he did say "Van Goff" a few times as well.
According to Wikipedia, the Dutch Dialect he would have grown up speaking has it pronounced like this.

Really? you didn't know the St. Johns Ambulance logo used to be on the Tardis during the 1st Doctors era?
That aside I get the idea that this season was originally written for Tennant since he didn't back out till...I do believe during the filming of the 2009 specials so I get the idea that this season was supposed to be for Tennant. It's kinda like when McCoy was working with the Colin Baker scripts for his first season and then the whole character changed. I am wondering if that will happen with 11.
