New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I really liked this episode! I loved the WW2 setting with the Daleks in it, I didn't feel like it was rushed and...I hate to say it but guys, you make it seem like they never had a last minute ending ever in Doctor Who, as if the doctor always solves and resolves everything half way through and spends the rest of the show relaxing on a beach or something. :rolleyes Come on now, you know just as well as I do that the Doctor usually figures out what he needs to do like half way through and then spends the last second implementing it and then we get a minute to breath at the end.

As for the new Daleks...I really like them though I admit the side profile makes them look like they got big dumpers back there XD Not too sure why they did that but I still like them over all.

One note about the classic Daleks...did anyone else notice that sound, the sound they always used to use around the classic series daleks in the 60's in the Dalek cities and ships, that odd oscillating sound...God it was so good to hear that again. The only thing about the new Daleks that will be a deal breaker for me will be if they don't use them to their fullest potential. If the Doctor CAN'T always beat them, that they actually win more often then not then I'll be quie happy to see the Daleks painted like Skittles XD.

Also, I LOVED seeing those fighters in space beating at the flying saucer! HOLY CRAP that was brilliant imagery.

That whole thing with the Jammie Dodger...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That is SO classic! Reminds me of the Face of Evil "Don't move or I'll kill him with this deadly Jelly Baby!" XD

So far, this I think is the best episode I've seen, and if it all only gets better from here then I think we're in great shape.

Additional: the theme song is growing on me. XD

The new Daleks aren't complete crap, but I really liked the version before them a lot more. They actually looked like weapons of war. The new ones, especially because of the paint jobs, look like ride ons you'd find out in front of a department store. I'm not even totally against the design, although they are a bit too big in my opinion, and theres no legit reason to remake a entire character model like the Daleks simply because the companion is taller. Are they going to do that everytime theres a new companion? I doubt it. It sounds like a excuse to me. They more than likely made them taller to make them seem more threatening than anything else, and to allow for more room for the operators inside the things.

Give them better, more metallic paint jobs and they'll be good to go.

And this is why we need separate threads for the UK and the US. We've just gotten episode 1 and you're talking about 3. I don't want to know about 2 and 3 yet...

I'd like to talk e1, but my guess it's 'passe' now...

Yeah, I know...

The point is, there ISN'T a discussion for those who don't watch them in the UK or off the internet 2 weeks earlier.

Trush me, I can easily find them off the web, i just wanted to wait for them to air on the BBCA, here. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just that it sucks to not be able to discuss it is all.

Very first post in the thread:

So, since we here in the states have to wait acouple more weeks for it, tell us what ya though, and if your going to post spoilers use a spoiler tag please

Clearly it changed, but spoilers weren't the original intent.

I also likes the episode but it did feel a bit rushed. Loved the Jammie Dodger, now there's a cheap prop.

But the in jokes are wearing a bit thin, "Broadsword calling Danny boy" and the mention of The Earth Dies Screaming were 2 stand outs on that episode.

Welcome to our world! Here in the UK we always get the same issue with US shows (Sarah Connor was my biggest recent problem with that).

Truth. Even worse with most new movies. At least you can download US shows.

I think most US Who fans are downloading them anyway, so I think a searate thread would be a bit quiet...

I haven't seen the new Dr. yet; I've seen as a child Tom Baker's Dr., the only in past years Dr's. Eccleston and Tennant, of both I enjoyed Tennant so much more... But, the one thing (other than his odd/clueless to me looks) that stands out to me is his use of a handgun, which I have (in short viewing history for the record) never seen a Doctor do; after all, a Time Lord can control all things chronological, physical, and metaphysical, so why would one such as him require use of a mechanical device that causes physical damage?

Yup, the Doctor has always hated guns, though this hasn't been quite so apparent as in the classic series (
Ecclestone did intend to use a gun in 'Dalek'....). I'm sure this will either be an important story point, or some sort of out of context shot.

Good episode, I liked the dalek story extremely well, it was very simple, not a huge 3 story arc, I haven't seen that much in dalek eps, the new design doesent bother me at all now that I've seen it in action.

Well, anyhoo, I will give a viewing or so to this new Dr., but likely won't enjoy his character as much as Tennants;

Prove me wrong, but this new guy IMHO doesn't have the facial structure or features to convey emotions as well as the previous 2 Doctors had...

Hrm.. are you talking about last season's finale? Did you watch the episode, or just see a screen shot of him holding the gun? You'd do well to watch it - if I remember right, the use of the gun is consistent with the character and the storyline.
EDIT: Oh, I just watched the previews at the end of the first episode again. Got it.

Mm, I loved all kinds of Dalek-y goodness in this latest episode. It made me want to have a 12" Dalek to repaint, wow. Just loved the Ironsides. New Daleks.. eh, I can live with 'em but they aren't my favorite.

I am falling more and more in love with Amy Pond. I think hers is the best-written character on this show by far, and if I could order a kiss-o-gram, I would. :D :D :D Matt's doing a really good job with the Doctor - he's made me forget Tennant, but he still needs to develop a personality that 'sticks.'

Oh, and get this. Last week, an article ran locally about the testing of military airships. It absolutely tickled me pink to see such a huge similarity to those hanging around WWII London.

The article is here, pictures are behind the spoiler tag.

The steampunk in me is just tickled to see airships making a comeback. :D

Vehicles in that episode were newer than 1990. I really hope they don't try to go down that path.

So were the phones and computers. Moffat said in an interview that the date was a mistake, but he's almost definitely lying to cover up a plot twist later in the show. A mistake like that CAN'T be made, trust me. It's too big.

Tom Baker used a gun in the Talons of Weng Chiang though that was more a rifle and he used it to kill a giant rat and, on top of that he intended to do it all along. It's not that the Doctor never used a gun or wouldn't if he were forced but on general principal does not. The Doctor isn't typically a pacifist XD

apologies if im repeating but why oh why does the tardis now look like blue laminate from ikea ????
