New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

This is going to be released in about a month....I gotta have it. Junkyard Tardis. The extra footholds make me think an Idris action figure is on the way as well.

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

A Tardis made of junk? COME ON! That would never happen in real life! This is completely factually incorrect and ruined the whole show for me. Thanks for raping my childhood Steven Moffatt!

It's pretty incredible that the concept of mining acid can ruin an episode for you but the Doctor turning into Dobby the House Elf, then being rescued by the power of prayer was a high point.

Because RTD is dedicated to technobable explanations, which are ultimately pointless, rather than conceptual or thematic authenticity. (Which apparent means nothing to some.)

Just wave your hands mysteriously and chant "Wibbley-wobbley, Timey-wimey".... It usually calms me down :lol

I don't think a lot of stuff in Doctor Who would happen in Real Life :p

I just happened to like The Doctor's Wife. I almost cried at the end of it...THERE I ADMIT IT! :p

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

Sorry dude, it was kind of a joke. I thought it was a great episode and can accept that implausible things occasionally happen to a time-traveling alien.

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

Just as an aside, as I've not seen it mentioned here before, the console for the Junkyard Tardis was designed by a kid for a competition on the well loved British kids TV program Blue Peter.

How chuffed must they have been.

Dude, the Dobby line in Downerville was rich creamery butter.

I guess she came across as somewhat less than chuffed on tv when they told her she won (I didn't see it) but who knows...she might have moved on. But still, she totally OWNS a seriously awesome piece of Whodom. Well done Susannah from Lancashire!

It didn't spontaneously happen. The Master had all the DNA info he needed about the Doctor and created a weapon specifically in mind to use on the Doctor. He then shot the Doctor with it and the Doctor was affected by it.

Now we've got super acid erupting out of the ground for no apparent reason.

Apples and oranges, really.

See how when you explained it, it became duller and didn't make that scene any better? That's my point.

Erupting out of the ground?

They call it a factory, and say it pumps acid to the mainland for the use of the military. Nowhere in the episode does it say acid is being pumped up from below ground. Cleaves has one line: "So now we mine the acid using these doppelgangers." Nothing else; no mention of any process, or how the acid is made. Who knows, they might expand on this in part 2, but so far that's it.

Mining it suggests pulling it from the ground. Manufacturing would suggest some kind of factory.

Who knows? They do call it a factory. Maybe they're using solar energy to process it out of sea water. The other installation mentioned was another island, after all. Why would it be in the sea water? I don't know. Alien attack? Silurian revenge? TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR MORE EXCITING ACID NEWS!

Well, I caught the story that introduced Matt Smith and I really like the aspect of him being like "The Time Traveler's Wife" and seeing this girl throughout her life, which for him has been moments. I always thought they sort of missed the fun aspects of the time travel that way.
However, I found Smith's Dr. to be too goofy. I mean he looked and sounded like an idiot! I do remember times when the Doctors in the past seasons would be confused and need a nudge to sort of remind them of something obvious, but this one seemed to need it all the time.
It looked to me like they were setting her (Pond) up to be the clever voice of reason and Smith was going to be bumbling and tripping through time.
Even the commercials for the new season "in America" where he doesn't know where he is and she does seem to support this.
I will watch it and eventually catch up, I'm sure.
I just hope it gets a little less goofy (does it?)
I really found that I preferred to have a Doctor who was a little more of the all-knowing, all-seeing type, occasionally kicking butt.
I mean, he's the last of the Timelords, right? Not "Cyrano Jones found a time box."

I didn't like Smith at first either, I warmed up to him though. Watch more of season 5 and see what you think.
