New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I didn't really get why we needed the Doctor running around in his nightgown (again)..
Because Moffat has run out of ideas. Doctor in nightwear just after regen? Been done. Doctor on a horse, dinosaur in London, etc, etc...
I was watching a Blue Peter special, where they had the competition winning kids who had designed gadgets for Strax, Vastra and Jenny. Moffat as good as admits that these kids are coming up with ideas he never could. When you need a 10 year old to give you the idea of a Sonic Loupe with multiple scanning lenses, and then you take the new intro sequence from a fan-created youtube vid... well, maybe it's time to admit you need someone with fresh ideas to take over.

In 'robot heaven' i get the impression we're supposed to know who that is. I'm thinking someone we've met before - quite a while ago.

I am loving Capaldi's Doctor so much more than Smith's. Could've done without the flashback to Time of the Doctor, though, I think that's my most hated episode of the new series, even more than a) anything with Rose in it, or b) The Next Doctor.

Was ok. The new Doctor will grow on me. I could look at Clara all day, especially if she were naked. Buttttt, another bunch evil robots in London? Same old rubbish. Give me some alien worlds and new concepts, please.

I hadn't caught it myself, but watching the after show, they pointed out that there are heavy connections between this episode and The Girl in the Fireplace, and think that the robots may be the same/similar.

IThe cameo was unexpected.
Are you speaking of the phone call or did I miss something again?

From what I gathered, yes they are the same. They were "trapped" by the Doctor when he broke the fireplace... So it was the Doctors fault they were doing what they were doing as it were...

A measure of just how bloody boring this was ,was that I actually fell asleep about half way through watching it, and that has n't happened for a long time. Dr "Whouse" has the potential to be interestingly different to Matt Smith, but he was still channeling him, with as much wavey hand antics and running around like a mad thing, and generally making little sense as ever . That may have been the point being freshly regenerated, but it all felt very flat to me. I woke up just before the end to catch Matt's lightning reappearance, and was renedered almost comatose again by that black hole of heavy sentiment . The writing for this series better get much better, this just felt like something scrapped of the bottom of the rejected pile , but accept because it has the NEW Dr Whouse in it.

Wrong ship. "Fireplace" robots where from the SS Madame de Pompadour. These were from its sister ship, the SS Marie Antoinette. Ten's actions had no effect on these bots.

I caught that just a bit ago after re watching the ep... I will say they are "related". So who was the woman at the ending? The Master, the TARDIS, or some one new?

How old is the Dr, I'm sure Matt and David have mentioned that they are 900 then last night he said he was 2000 years old:wacko

He was about 900 years old when they started the 2005 series, but then he spent 300 years evading his death in the S6 arc that started with The Impossible Astronaut and ended with The Wedding of River Song. If you remember at the start of the season, that Doctor said he was about 1200. Then he spent 900 years fighting on Trenzalore in The Time of the Doctor. That figure isn't specifically given in the episode, but it is the intended number according to other sources. So The Doctor is now about 2100, give or take. Doesn't make much difference when you're that old. :lol

Any one else think Missy- The Mistress- The Master? or MIStakes, the collective embodiment of all the doctors MIStakes, Hence Missy?

My roommate's noticed that, in appearance and manner, Missy is similar to Madame Kovarian and Tasha Lem (from The Time of the Doctor). I also noticed that there seemed to be something strange with her eyes right before they zoomed out on her.

I watched last night, although I missed a bit during a quick power outage. Let me just say I haven't watched a lot of the new Doctor Who stuff, although I enjoyed last years two specials quite a bit - I have no idea who the lizard lady, Sontaran and the maid are - but, will be brushing up via wiki (I've seen them before and I get enough to know they are familiar with Doctor).

I have mixed feelings about Capaldi as Doctor. It doesn't seem as inspired a choice as I'd hope (not that Matt Smith or the other "new" Doctors were particularly inspiring) - his outfit, like Tennant's and Eccleston's seems kinda bland - and the jacket flair at the waste seems odd.

The new intro? I loved the fan version... is it just me or does it seem like the sped it up and it's almost a blur? Why bother with a new intro if it's just a fast forward? Hate that synth/not-quite-theremin, it just sits too high atop the musical background and really seems like it out of pitch - it just screeches and doesn't seem to follow the melody (especially towards the end). The rest of the music seemed just fine.

Other than that, I liked the episode for the most. Not sure if we really got enough of the Doctor becoming the "Doctor." I think it needed that familiar/typical plotline just do we can get accustomed to a new Doctor. It wasn't as great as the last two Smith specials I saw (but, seemed to fit in with a smattering of other episodes I've seen).
