New BMF coming

Hey guys,

So i got my new Falcon in after my other one got damaged. However, ill agree what someone else said, that it could be a blessing as im doing some things differently. And ive got a spare turret gun, and sidewalls now :D

On another note (and this is gonna sound funny ) ive got a works meeting tommorow. Have to be dressed in formal wear so after dinner got the trousers out so im good to go in the morning. When i got them from the cupboard i did think how close they looked to a cheaper alternative for the exhaust vents ( the 6 on the falcon rear top) and just went about ironing them. Well, muggins here left the iron on then one of the kids called-came back and proceeded to press my trousers and i burnt a hole in them. After a few f words, it suddenly dawned on me that i could have a cheap alternative for the vents. Heres a pic of the material. yeah, inm peed off i ruined my trousers, but ive got other pairs :) The strpies are about 4-5mm apart and the colour is grey/gray.

If anyone wants an offcut for vents please feel free to ask :) (obviously all material will be coming from the legs of the trousers!!!

Got some done tonight, notched her

And got the rear port side insert done. Added additional greeblies around the outside of the cutout, just to add some barely visible detail under the overhang.

Sprayed with adhesion aid by Hycote and then sprayed bumper black

Fitted some pipes from 1mm brass rod. Will store in a bag until all cutouts, piper removal etc. i.e until all body work done then will be fitted. As the body is so flexible, I don't want the part peeling off with man handling.

Part still needs tidying but its mostly done.

That's all folks for tonight

Those micro chisels look like handy things samster27 , do you think there would be a call for the 1mm one now you have used them?

I tied a few tests on the offcuts of sidewall that i painted a couple of days ago.
I used the hycote adhesion aid, and two coats of hycote plastic primer. One side was also satin topcoated.
Once dry for two days the side with primer was very resistant to me scratching at it with my nail, the side with the top coat was not so resistant but still good.

Then I tried did this........ and it didn't flake off or even become more prone to figernail scratches.

Next I did this..... The side with the topcoat flaked but only a little and the primed side seemed fine really.

The spuerglued bits of styrene stuck about quite well to the adhesion aid and must have been about 4 times better than nothing even though it still did pop of taking the coat of aid with it. That improved even when i scored the plastic and the sprayed the adhesion aid before superglueing.

And that was without washing it first too but on the main falcon I think I will, It can't hurt :)

Just got mine delivered to my office. It didn't come inside another packing box... just the box like on the shelf. So when I went to the front desk to pick it up, there were already a bunch of people looking at it.

"Of course it's yours..."

Ha.

Looking forward to getting it home and getting a close look at this thing finally.

spacebob, not sure about a 1mm. Because its not as wide as maybe a pipe you are trying to remove, I can imagine it sliding off and slicing the surface around it. Then again for the cost, it can't hurt having one in the locker just in case...

I got 2...One was shockingly NOT in any box like yours...they just left it on my doorstep that way. The second came inside another box

I got a Nibbling Tool today...someone had mentioned it for making those cut outs in the hull panels. Well...it works great...only problem is the cut-outs are too big. There is no way (on the one I got) to adjust the size of the cut-out. The question is.....is there a nibbling tool that makes the perfect size cut-out for the hasbro falcon? I could see it being worth getting another one if it was dead on the right size.

Well, here is my totally gehto solution to the rear engine light: 2 $10 dog collars.

Bought them on Amazon, removed the lighting element, trimmed to fit and made the grill from an Evergreen ladder. It's held in place by magnets. Batteries should last over 100 hours according to the manufacture.. Super low tech, no wiring, totally ghetto, mod. Wadaya think?

Brilliant. I've been puzzling over finding EL tape the right size, and how to power it for the engine. That looks great. Is the whole thing removable, or do you need to open her up to change batteries? Also, the ad you posted, and most of the ones I see on Amazon, say flashing; is there a switch for steady on,or did you have to mod it somehow?

Mojo, I really like your solution. Inexpensive and looks good.

I know Walmart Canada has the Falcon online but has anyone seen one in store ? With Christmas a week away you'd think they would be on the shelves.

Believe it or not this Falcon is virtually extinct in Australia already and I want another one, which won't happen now unless I pay a fortune for it. This sucks.

D'oh, sorry, thought you were talking about the led collar. The website lists it as online only, so I wouldn't hold your breath for us to see them in Canada on the shelves.

The strip is removable the way I've fitted it. You would need to remove it to replace the batteries, it would be a pain in the butt, but I do not anticipate that need happening for years. The button to switch from solid to blink fast/blink slow is located on the edge of the strip. The way I've fitted it you would need only apply pressure to the grill to turn on/change modes. it looks pretty cool blinking.

I was looking at pics of the real 32" version and comparing and I have to say Hasbro did an amazing job on this. Studio Scale, no, but really impressive. I don't think this was made just for this release.

I think this is the base for the Episode 7 toy and this mold will be used again.

Okay looking at those 32" pics I had a thought.

You had the exact same idea as me, lol. I think a really good result can be had from cutting these panels slightly larger to overhang just a bit.

As for the chisel, it's very easy to make a great one from a cheap mechanical screwdriver. Just file to a sharp edge and you can also put a bend in it as well to make getting into the tighter places much easier. The cheaper ones are made from softer metal so they'll bend without breaking. So get a box of them from the dollar store and make a set of chisels for about $4.00!

Good idea.

I'm not going crazy with the pipes, but I am cutting out and replacing them in all the recessed areas like above. I think that makes a huge difference. Add a little overhang and bam. Maybe a few other pipes here and there.
