New BMF coming

Amazing find! What's that collar called? Can you please send a link?

Well, here is my totally gehto solution to the rear engine light: 2 $10 dog collars.

Bought them on Amazon, removed the lighting element, trimmed to fit and made the grill from an Evergreen ladder. It's held in place by magnets. Batteries should last over 100 hours according to the manufacture.. Super low tech, no wiring, totally ghetto, mod. Wadaya think?

a simple google search brought this up...

and ebay...

seems like the right stuff... or something similar... Taking nothing away from the Dog Collar - brilliant.

No question EL light strip is the pro way to go. But i hate wiring, soldering and messing about with electronic stuff. The dog collar is plug n play. for $10 and it adds almost no weight to the model.

Sourcing is half the fun. I wouldn't want to take tat away from you, but here's a lead. Just type in "flashing dog collar" or "safety dog collar" into into Amazon. If you need help spelling "dog collar" let me know. :)

I had always heard that EL has a limited life span (well, I suppose that's true of everything if you stretch the timetable far enough, but I'm thinking as opposed to a strip of LEDs). Is that still the case?

The EL tape sources I posted above were "kits" that had everything you needed. But the Dog collar is just cool in its own right :)

As for the chisel, it's very easy to make a great one from a cheap mechanical screwdriver. Just file to a sharp edge and you can also put a bend in it as well to make getting into the tighter places much easier.
Is there a reason you guys prefer chisels — whether purpose-built or improvised from screwdrivers — to a square-pointed Xacto blade? I've used the latter in the past with good results. On a Hasbro A-wing, I used one to remove all the raised panel lines (some people seem to just go after those with sandpaper, which sounds time-consuming); it did a great job, leaving just enough of the original line to serve as a handy guide for scribing recessed lines. Just make sure your blade is sharp — gouged my clumsy hand with it when it got dull, and had a numb area of that hand for three or four years as a result.

I understand if the thing you're trying to remove is surrounded by detail too closely to make using the blade feasible — I'd use something else in that case as well. I have found the blades in a couple of sizes, and you could grind down a blade to a narrower size, I suppose.

For pipe removal, has anyone tried using a pair of end cutters? Not sure if there's something I've missed, but it occurred to me that this might be a cleaner option than chisels or xactos - it seems like you could just rest the blades right against the hull and just move along the pipe, snipping away sections very cleanly and without risk of gouging the surrounding area.

Wanted to post this again..because it was buried in a post about something else... NIBBLING TOOLS! I got one..they are awesome..but the one I got makes notches that are too wide. Do any of you have one that makes perfect HASBRO notches? Size-wise?

Tron, i just used a Swan Morton scalpel and cut them out using the slight indent as the size, so if the notch was a narrower one, it did not matter. They look spot on. Look at some of the notches on the actual ILM falcons...dead ropey in places :lol

Yeah agreed the real one is by hand for sure. I have done SOME by hand and they are decent...However..the nibbler is damn perfect...if it was only a bit smaller it would be perfect for this

Problem is the notches are not all the same size;

If we are trying to replicate the 32 inch...then the odd ropey notch will be spot on. There is so much one can do , you can go to ridiculous lengths, but at the end of the day the HBMF will always be a compromise. I say don't worry too much, do your best and finish it with an amazing paint job.

Unless we all do a Monsieur Tox and build the actual 32 inch ( bloody amazing work Sir ) then lets just build them to whatever level we are happy with. At the end of the day...all that matters is that each builder is able to look at their BMF and think...boy that's gorgeous. If it can stir the emotions we first felt when watching Star Wars ( 1 that became IV ), when first setting eyes on the Millennium Falcon,,,then its job done.

Thanks be to Hasbro, they achieved in a Little tykes way, a very accurate shape for us to play with.

Thank you Hasbro for your dedication to the Star Wars world
