New 1/144 Falcon Kit

to me it looks like a scanned and size reduced FM Falcon. Not much loss of detail aside from piping, but not alot of differences either.

Either way that is a lot of detail for something 1/144.

Instead of scanning an existing kit I would have liked to have seen a new tooling. Then you might finally see a falcon based on the ANH five footer.

So it seems it is a scaled version of the FM kit, but the question is, would this be considered a "recast"?

Haha... now the term recast needs an update. Would a physical model scanned in 3d, rendered in a compy and then fabricated by machines even have stake in this nasty word?

Dare I say we might have to use new terminology.

I agree, recast would have to be identically sized and detailed copy of the original piece. Scanned and resized is another animal altogether. Not only that, but when details have been altered like the tubing etc.....it pretty much eliminates the whole recasting situation completely. I seriously doubt any forum would ultimately do anything about this predicament due to the many factors that have been altered. Technically, the whole shebang is different from the original, so nothing about the object has been recast by our definition. This is also a scary gray area because what if someone scans a screen sourced prop, resizes it 2-3% larger and claims their "copy" to be created prior to the one they copied??? That causes a shiver up one's spine eh??? But think about it, it's bound to happen eventually. Just like the eFX Red 5. it's 10 percent larger than the original to account for resin shrinkage that didn't occur.

and if it's licensed, so recasting rules don't apply, or at least not in the same way. LFL has the right to license one company to repurpose work another was licensed for.

It's not a licensed kit. SW does not appear anywhere on the website nor do the ship names. This all may be a moot point soon anyway.......................

Yep, Cease and Desist letter apparently hit Fantastic Plastic recently. Probably because he was advertising Anigrand!

That, and from what I've read on quite a few Boards people seem
to think this is a " scanned and STL'd " version of the FM
Falcon..

NO CLUE if that is true ! { GOTTA' ADD THAT ! :lol }

But HEAVEN help them if that's what they did as
Uncle George will be all over them !

:eek

Shame! Was really looking forward to seeing the shuttle and ISD... Guess their start was a bit too ambitious with two of the most iconic SW craft...

I ordered directly from Anigrand myself. Their communication was good and they said it would ship on the 13th. I expect it anyday.

EDIT: It was waiting for me at work. Quick glance looks good. It won't need much clean up. Looks like a little FM falcon to me. Exact same issues with parallel mandibles and jaw boxes.
