Nerf Gun Props? YES!

Maybe I shoulda read more lol. Cause I'm seeing nerf stuff now without the blatant emblem on em. Sheesh 49 pages is alot to soak up.

Thanks Pete! As proud of my work as I am, I still see room for improvement, especially for some of the commercial work I'm doing now. Those folks are picky! Lol

I can't wait to see how the guns come out for ya, it sounds like you're taking the time and doing the steps to have a really nice finish. All the best with them! If you ever find yourself in Florida, my little shop is always open for wayward travelers :)

Ashiva, thanks for being a trooper! There's a lot of cool stuff in those pages, I hope it was fun to look through them :) This has been a pretty popular thead and I'm honored to have the chance to share and also see what other artists are up to in this fun hobby

I'll be in Orlando this Saturday for the Orlando Mini Maker's Faire if anyone's going to be in the area. I'll have an arsenal with me and my buddy Jason Rawley of firebladecomics.com will have some awesome ghostbusters props as well!

Johnson, if I'm ever out that way, I would love to take you up on that. An afternoon at your shop is probably more fun than going to Disneyland.

It's certainly a lot cheaper! :) That would be really cool, you guys do have a standing invite to come by if you're even in the Clearwater area!

I tried my hand at painting. Meh...

I hate working with Bondo. I filled in the seams and screw holes and removed the raised text. I cut the end off the cocking lever and replaced it with a replica loop ring so that I can still cock it. The lens cap did not come off well so I replaced it with a Armor-All Spray cap and a bit from an old Darth Vader figure's lightsaber. I wet-sanded the final coat and did a lot of wiping on and off water based acrylic paints to assist with the weathered look. Like I said... Meh.

Problem with this toy is the end and muzzle tip keep the two sides locked together so I could not get inside like i wanted to. I did not want to mess up the internals because I wanted the red light and the Nerf firing function to work. I looked around the net and you basically have to cut those parts in half and i knew I did not want to go the Bondo process with those. That is the reason I did not modify the trigger the way I wanted to.

Just a couple of WIP shots. My sanded down Maverick shell and the custom faux scope I'm making for it. The scope is about 80% finished. Then onto some body cosmetics and paint.

I went back and did some more weathering and added a faux lens. I'm much happier with the outcome.

Hey all,

I followed my "leader" Brian, of JohnsonArms, here. Thought it would be a good place to get some ideas, advice and feedback. I'm super impressed with everything I've seen.

A quick bit of history, them a few pics:

I teach modelling and animation at the high-school level in Vancouver, B.C. We got a 3D printer (makerbot) this year and started looking for things to print. Around the same time a friend of mine started steampunking Nerf guns. Well if that wasn't a marriage made in heaven, I don't know what is.

So I started "farting" around, trying to figure out how to do the modelling, printing and the painting good enough to teach it to a bunch of teenagers. I discovered JohnsonArms and the rest was history. Brian is the GOD of this stuff and was very nice to me from the first e-mail and phone call.

So I've become a bit addicted to painting guns, and I'm not really sure why. I'm Canadian, we don't really "do" guns. I guess it's the creative side of me.

So I've done a few guns, modeled and printed a few parts and am now teaching a group of kids how to take a purple Nerf gun and paint it black and make it realistic, all inside a high-school classroom. I'm just waiting for the police to show up =)

So here's a couple guns, sorry about the bad picture quality, cell phone pics:

Wow, I really like the last 2! Great job!

I should just give up. :cry

Hey Rob! I'm really glad to see you sharing the props on here! They really came out great, buddy! I wish I had teachers as cool as you when I was in school, haha! Keep up the great work!

Thanks Brian! Here's something I (literally) dreamt up, it's a Stark Sidearm. If Tony Stark needed to carry a gun, this would be it. This is very WIP, just an idea and some paint atm. But I'm wiring LEDs inside to shine out the 3D printed arc reactor on the front...

PS - how do I post pics in the message? I'm just putting them in under "manage attachements" for now

That's a cool mod, I'd love to see it finished :thumbsup My lot have to be put on hold as I'm concentrating on a different project at the moment. I hope to have some time in the future to tackle the guns I have waiting to be finished.

As for posting pics, I use Photobucket, but there are many pic hosting sites available. Upload to the host of your choice and use the supplied URL (direct link in Photobucket) and include it in the posts. The pic should appear with your text when you press submit :thumbsup

I'm pretty new to the RPF, but I've been modding and painting for quite a few years now, thought it was worth posting my latest Seburo-styled Nerf Rayven and Element.

Mods to Rayven:
-Logos and camo texture sanded off
-Side tactical rail removed and replaced with sheet HIPs
-Seburo logos CNC'd in sticky vinyl and stuck on sides
-Paint job including stencilled writing (eg. POLICE)
-All locks and safety mechanisms removed
-On/off switch installed and located on the left side

Element:
-Paint job with stencils
-Section underneath (flashlighty thing?) cut off and replaced with a section of a broken magazine
-Weighted
-AR removed

Any C&C for my next lot would be appreciated :)
