Thats where it all starts. Keep with the $10 and under until you're confident with the painting, then move to the bigstuff :)

Man thats a nice compliment. I wish I have the resources to modify the guns more, but I don't so it's staying within my "expertise" and I do the other stuff when I have free time, whatever that is ;)

Jaw dropping work here! I'm about to obtain a Nerf Maverick and wondered if there are any tutorials anywhere on how to get it looking like some of the fabulous things on this thread?

That's very kind of you! With almost 40,000 views over the past 2-3 months, I'm still shocked at the response. I know I'm working about 15 hours a day (regular work and then shop time is 5-7 hours of that!) and my inbox keeps getting busier. The RPF has to be one of the best sites I've seen for this type of stuff and to be honest when I joined I came in expecting to get blasted and then learn from the critiques. So far, no negative comments so that didn't work as planned, but no complaints.

My best part of the day is when I can jump on to see all the other work out there, each one a real work of art. I hope you'll post your results when you get after that new Nerf :)

As far as tutorials, there are tons online and especially here on RPF. It's good info, but I'm at about 1800 hours of painting time and there's honestly no replacement for practice. My best stuff are happy accidents that never would have happened if I followed someone else's step by step tutorial. So take in the info you find and then just dig in with a brush and paint. Use a flat spraypaint for the base coat (after you sand off all the shiny plastic!) and off you go! :)

I was originally going to just send this to JA as a private message, but I figured somebody else may be interested as well. It's looking like I may be getting into going to frequent local auctions as part of a business deal with a friend, and I personally am going to be on the lookout for action figures/nerf guns/misc. toy awesomeness. I don't have any idea yet how often I will come across things, but if anybody wants a cheap hook-up on Nerf guns I may be able to help you out. As mentioned before I do frequently pick them up from the thrift stores (I just got another Maverick and part of what I think is a Longshot for $2 last weekend) and now I'll have this auction route as well. I'm not trying to advertise or anything here, merely saying that I'll probably have access to more guns than I can work with so if anybody wants some they may be available. I'd be more than willing to get them to people for what they cost me + shipping. Just want to help out anybody that might not have access to them as cheap, or the time to go scouting for some.

If there is enough demand I may set up an Amazon store (just to make everything easier for the transactions) and set the prices to what I paid + shipping + enough to cover the Amazon fees. I will update this thread with as much info as I can as it becomes clear how many guns I'll be getting my hands on and how often.

I don't think this post violates the rules, but if it does by all means delete it, and I will send JA a private message.
 
Thats awesome, bud! I'd certainly be happy to get any extras that you find and if you're able to message me when you have something, I can let you know if its a model or part that I can use. I would insist in adding some money for your time, it's not free even if you think it is :)

Probably the best way might be to open a thread in the junkyard and them just link people to that thread so it stays in the site's guidelines..not that I know their exact guidelines...hehe.

Great choice of colour combinations.
