Need MGC Mauser help!

Hi there.

I'm trying to completely disassemble my MGC Mauser at the moment, but I'm stuck.
Since you can pretty much take the MGC apart like the real thing, I used this manual:

http://www.surplusrifle.com/pistolc96broom...emble/index.asp

Now, I'm stuck at figure 18. I can turn the firing pin 90 degrees, but it just doesn't "pop" out, I can't take it out at all. The instructions say
18) The firing pin will “pop” out and then you can pull it the rest of the way out of the bolt.

NOTE: Some older models have a firing pin retainer that used a flat plate. The plate is dovetailed and can be released by pushing the firing pin inward to release the spring pressure on the plate and then slide the plate upward.[/b]

I don't really get what they mean. Mine doesn't move out at all, even if I pull back the slide and try to push the pin out, it doesn't move a bit, I can only push it in...
Does anybody know how to do this?

Any help appreciated.

I had the exact same problem on mine... The pin on the MGC fits awfully tight. If you pull the bolt back you can see pin from the right side of the gun. You can also see the little tabs on the firing pin that lock it in. You'll be able to line them up with the hole better looking at it that way. I think I also had to do a little pusing to get it through the hole but it does come out. Its just a tight fit.

Once you get it out you can take a file to the tabs on the pin and basically take off all the sharp corners and it will help with the next time you take it apart.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot.

Will try that as soon as I'm home again. I thought it might be the tabs, but I thought I had tried every way to line them up and push the pin out. Well, I guess I'll have to try again.

Thanks

Hey guys.

Thanks for the info, didn't get the firing pin out though, but the problem was elsewhere and I was able to fix it.

Now, I have a few more questions:

- Will real Mauser wood grips fit on an MGC Mauser? I believe I read somewhere that they are too small, but since I can't find that post anywhere, I'm not sure if I should go for a pair of nice real grips...

- For the Han ANH hero (Yes, I'm going for a hero, with an MGC mauser. Can't get a real one around here legally and the Denix just doesn't cut it. So what? Sue me. :p), how much do I have to cut the barrel? How long is the bull barrel supposed to be? And what's the length of the flash hider? Do I have to cut the barrel or could one make the mods "reversible"?

Thanks a lot.

The real grips are not a direct fit, you have to make a lot of modifications to make them work. Wakal has a tutoial somewhere

The bull barrel is also a lot of work and once it's installed you can no longer remove the upper receiver from the lower receiver.

There are several ways to incorporate the it depending on who made the parts you're using so you will need to let use know that to get the best information.

You mean this one?

That's for fitting real grips to a Denix, but mine is an MGC. I think the MGC is larger than the Denix, but I'm not sure how the MGC compares to a real Mauser. As far as I've heard, they're REALLY close in size, but then I've also read somewhere that the grips might still not fit...

Well, I was thinking about making the bull barrel myself, since a friend of mine works in a machining shop. Don't have any dimensions though...

About the flash hider, I don't have one either, eagerly waiting to see if MG-81 replicas are being made...

The whole point of this is: If I could cut the bull barrel AND the hider in half and put them together around the barrel of the MGC, I might not have to cut the barrel down. Perhaps I just can't bear the thought of destroying an MGC Mauser, it's a fantastic chunk of metal. But as said, if the barrel's longer than the bull barrel with the flash hider (or my idea is just plain stupid :unsure ), then the barrel has to go...

Any inputs appreciated.

I believe the MGC should be pretty much dead-on to a real Mauser as far as the shape of the grip frame goes.
The Denix is definitely off as far as those dimensions go.

But Odiwan would be one of the best people to ask. Markus... Wo bist du??? :D

The barrel would need to be cut.
See The Parts of Star Wars link here for the barrel length of the original gun in The Naked Runner.
If done correctly the upper would be able to be removed from the lower.

Not necessarily. The barrel ranges in length on the MGC Mauser. I once saw Tom's collection and he has a couple dozen with quite a number of observable differences. There is a great discrepancy in barrel length. I have an MGC Mauser that even Tom hadn't seen the likes of. It has a particularly short barrel. All I did on mine was remove the front sight.

The MGC I have is just as large as the Denix in the grip frame area and would have to be modified accordingly. Most likely Wakal's tutorial would work if you would really like to replace the plastic grips with wooden ones. Just do as he suggested and fit the wooden grips, then trace around them with a razor blade. Remove the grips and file the frame down to the scribe mark. Then refit the grips.

Just FYI.. This isn't correct... A common misconception is that the bull barrel is round. It isn't. If you look closely at the reference you can see that the very bottom of the barrel is ground flat to allow it to be removed from the rest of the gun. Its something that I don't think anyone, even Master Replicas has gotten right. It explains a lot of the things that appear off in replicas. I'll try to get some pics up later to illustrate.

On the real hero prop the barrel was cut off of the gun and the "bull barrel" presumably a real piece from another weapon was attached (probably welded) This piece is threaded to receive the longer barrel that we see in use in The Naked Runner and may be off of the same gun as the long barrel. This new "bull barrel" was most likely ground down at this point to patch/match it to the existing mauser receiver. This new assembly would have then been reassembled onto the Mauser body. Keep in mind this paragraph is conjecture but it makes sense given all the reference material.

So who is going to make new accurate steel "bull barrels"? I've got 3D files underway for them but have been wanting to track down some more details especially about the "tabs" that appear on the tip of the "bull barrel" in The Naked Runner.

Mauser grips should be drop in replacements for MGC just like a real Mauser. However, nothing is drop in on a Mauser either ;)
