ok well I have a bit of a situation here with my suit. There are a few parts that need some serious attention. I will start things off with the hands. What I am looking for is some advice on what I can do to fix these things up. I had paid to have my suit painted and what I got back was well you decide, the hands were worn literally 4 times twice to actually waljk around in and the other 2 for fitting. I am told the hands were crap to start off with which I completely disagree. So without further adue here are the pics.

So What's the best way to approach these hands?

I will post some more pics and info about another part ina bit I need to take some snaps of it.

cheers!

wow, thats after four wears and you've had it for what, a week or so?! o_O Any idea what was used to bond the paint on these? i wouldn't think that would happen with something like prosaid and the like. Damn, sorry to see this man.

Jeez bud that is horrendous. Hope you didn't pay to much to have the paint job done. They will as mentioned have to be stripped down and re done. Someone obviously does not know how to paint latex!

ok I'll post up some pics of the torso. Now the torso was not in the best shape from what I hear. My issues with the torso are cracking and peeling (I'm aware this happens over time) and the fact that when I suited up for Halloween once I came back into the house to take the suit off I noticed the paint was running all down the front from sweat from under the neckring. Also the amount of peeling and cracking already has me worried.

here are some pics:

Again this was worn a few times, any help is appreciated.

cheers

You expect paint to wear on places that are rub points or that there is constant wear on, the joys of latex I guess , but looking At thAt it may not have been sealed 100% or perhaps even to thick a layer is sealer was applied..
And in what way was the torso not in great shape.. I haven't heard anyone else say anything about genes P2 skins..

I'm still a noob to all this but the skins had thin spots and such nothing that I know that wouldn't make paint stick to latex? I know there would be some wear but I literally just picked this suit from courier last Saturday.

Is there anything that can be done to salvage this? Or does it need to be stripped and repainted? I'm pretty much done discussing these events with the painter so trying to get info on whether or not prosaid or w/e was used is not in the cards. I was basically told it was my fault this happened.....

I will however point out so far everything else on the suit is fine.

Also while I'm at it, is there any way to get rid of the stink of smoke? Everything reeks of it.....

No it's not your fault and frankly for Rhonda to say that is bang out of order.. The torso I reckon is probably salvageable looking at the parts effected they look like they will be under armour, although pu may not get it exact to original you should be able to work with it, however the hands will need a strip and repaint.. Just my opinion, some of the guys with a bit more painint experience may chime in now and give there views as well to see if something can be done

what you are seeing is paint that was not mixed properly with an adhesive. that's why is is cracking so bad. your painter is at fault. i use latex paints and not one of my pieces has anything that looks like that.

Not to disagree, but paints do NOT need to be mixed with a adhesive. ( you can lay it down 1st )

This is appalling to be honest, i have painted skins that were 4+ yrs old, and had no issues, as long as you put down a layer of adhesive 1st or mix in with your paints as D says, you will be fine. ( there are many ways to paint but i would not recommend anything other than with dhesive somewhere in the process )

I personally have never mixed adhesvie with my inks. i learnt to put down the prosaide layer from MEL BIGGUNNS ( her and larry stand head and shoulders above EVERYONE else here ) and i have been using her prosaide 1st technique since day one.

like everything it can be salvaged, but if it has not been properly prepared then the chances are it ALL needs stripping back, the suit looks like it has had 5 or 6 years of HARD trooping, not a couple of wears.

it certainly looks like there is NO adhesive the way the paint is flaking off, and as for the paint running, well that is purely down to no top coat or very little been applied.
LIQUITEX GLOSS MEDIUM AND VARNISH is what i have used for YEARS, if its good enough for Steve Wang, its good enough fo me.

yeah, i guess i didnt clarify too well. since i use something i dont have to layer or mix. i didnt quite say it correctly.

So my best option is to try and strip back as much as I can and reprint? Any tips about the smell on the rest of the suit?

This is so sad. I am truly sorry this is happening to you. Sad thing is, the painter doesn't seem to want to help you out in any way. I hope the painter hasn't done this to any one else. I can't even imagine how I would feel if this were me. Maybe someone else has some ideas as far as the smoke smell, but it's been my experience from years of painting (mostly houses) that if there is any smoke or smoking around while the paint is drying, the odor tends to absorb into the paint. At that point, there's not much you can do except wait for it to diminish over time. You may want to try putting it in a closet with a few of those smoke smell neutralizers for a while and see if that helps. I really hope you can work this out and get back on track. Keep us updated on things, and good luck!

I was thinking maybe they used a rare type of prosthetic adhesive, because the best i used is monster makers and it doesnt crack like that, but kryolan i only used for the feet and half mask, only in part that dont bend, for hands and torso i used monstermakers like i said, dont know for sure just my opinion

I'll wait to do anything other than try and remove smell until I can afford to buy an airbrush and supplies.

Thanks for the suggestions guys/gals.

Perhaps I'll make a thread on my works so I can also get advice on how to go about painting and such.
