Need Help finishing my Jayne Cobb

Well I don't have any handy pics but what I did was get some nylon webing from Hobby Lobby. Cut 3 strips and sew them together X2. Also at Hobby Lobby I got some of the snap buckles and some of the smaller webbing and made 3 sets of those X 2.

The only thing I did that was a cheat... I attached the straps to the gaitors, snapped them closed and sewed the other side down. The I basically use the super velcro to wrap the whole thing intact around my boots and ankles. If you look closely I think this is what they did as well for movie. I do not think they use the buckles to hold the gaitors on.

If I had not packed it all for DCon I would get it out and take a pic sorry.


Oh and thanks for the kudos... honestly I stood on the shoulders of giants, namely stormtrooperguy from this thread in getting my kit complete... he really did a lot of the research before I started getting my costume together. I just happen to look a lot like Jayne and I like the little details...


Still need the pouch with the dangly bits on it to complete the look... and I am going to get a bag of grenades even though it's not accurate for the this scene's costume, well, because it's always a good time to have a grenade!

I sewed my gaiters from elastic, and stitched the buckles on as functional closures. The elastic isn't as perfectly accurate as the nylon starpping, but it looks really good.

Just wanted to add that the gaitors/armour shins from the alliance for the BDM were leather backed and then the nylon strapping was sewn to the thin leather, completely covering it. And yes the platic snap in buckles were the only closure method. So, it's possible this is how Jaynes were originally made as well.

I know this is an old thread, but the gaiters pics helped me as well as the suggestion to velcro the closure and make the buckles ornamental. anyway here are my finished ones. thanks again.

cost was about $17 in parts from wal-mart camping section.

What size are the two different webbings you guys are using? (i.e. 2" strips for the base rows, and then 1" on thop of that?)

yes exactly. and at walmart you can get a 1" buckle with 6 feet of 1" webbing attached in the camping dept for less than a single 1" buckle in the sewing dept. They call them tie downs. I also got the 2" strap in the camping dept, some other kind of tie down, but 2 of them was just enough for both legs.

Here's a pic of the screen used holster. I think you nailed it. I would also like to know were you got it (and/or what search words you used, or just a link would work. )

They do have some similar holsters on ebay,, for less then $30. (shipped) but they really aren't close enough for most of the folk around these parts.

anyway I had a really hard time finding the one people recommend, and it is backordered at the places I did find. Then I ran across this one, and it was in stock and shipped in one day. Whew!

I took off the extra leg strap ripped out one little seam to make the gun sit better and turned the lower leg strap inside out.

in other news...

I ordered a trigger guard for my lemat, and also had a resin one on the way, but neither one has arrived yet, so I decided to make one from scratch today.

now it is taking a silicone bath so that hopefully I can cast one good metal one tomorrow for my gun. Then add the ball and ring and I'll be all set!

pinWOW! that looks amazing. Weather you do them in metal, rubber, or resin, I jus konw you could find some folks around here, that would wont them. I know, I would love to get one. But yeah, a rubber one, would be AWESOME! i WOULD LOVE TO GET ONE OF THOSE! (pending price of course)
