Looking to make a purchase on a nice Accurate Flux Capacitor but don't know anything about the accuracy on one of these bad boys.I like accurate so do i go with Diamond Select replica or a fan made?

Any suggestions would be a great help.Maybe someone on the board owns a specific flux they can shed light on.

Thanks

Well the diamond select one does not have the activation knobs on the inside, thats probably a given. I know the Lighting was an issue being it was going the opposite way which has been fixed. I'm sure there are other things that thats just what comes to mind. I'm probably gonna look at getting the DS one down the line. I have one that me and my dad put together, had mentioned that I might upgrade but I might just give him that and either get the DS version or a better one if I can find one thats cost effective.

yeah i heard about DS lighting fluxing backwards but dont know if that's true.I came across 2 guys selling fluxes for around the same prices I believe the guys called videobob and a guy named bruce.I'm just looking for the most accurate.By doing a bit of research i found out that the real relays are hard to come by and cost a nice penny.Like i said i don't know too much it's just that i don't want to waste my money on a poorly made replica.Should i wait for the new DS?

Stay away from VideoBob! The guy is a duche and sells crap. His real name is Bob Mosely and has been a BTTF headache for years. Gary knows.

Bruce is Bruce Columbe. I know he use to make VERY accurate BTTF props but I heard he has been getting a bad name in the BTTF community. I also know that he sells his accurate flux capacitors for WAY too much. Like a $1000 or at least he use to. The best thing to do is email Gary and he will set you straight.

Crap yea I forgot to get back in contact with gary after I had talked to him. Last I heard from him he was waiting to restock on some things.

For lghting, look at VoodooFX's "Galaxy Quest" Vox. It might need to be scaled up, but should have the right "look".

The Diamond Select second edition of the Flux Capacitor was pretty good for a mass produced product and it's reasonably priced. I think they are releasing another run of them in October too. Aside from that, there are usually two people on eBay that sell nice looking replicas. I think one of them is Bruce. If I remember correctly, his were priced around $450... not sure but I think there was a remote control and it may have made the Fluxing sound.

Well After all this searching and going back and forth in my head about which Flux to invest in, I went with Bruces Flux :cool. He seems like a very nice guy through email's and took care of me.I'm really not big on the whole Building parts of Bttf props but for what i seen in his videos even if his Fluxes aren't 100% Accurate which no ones is in my opinion, it really looks sweet and looks damn close to the movie accurate Flux. When I receive the flux sometime before the holiday's I will post an exclusive video review so stay tuned.

P.S

I understand alot of people have there opinions on Bruce so let's not make this into a bashing thread.

Gary Weaver makes some great replicas. I think they are sold online somewhere. Look him up he's on the boards. As far as I read those are the most accurate ones around.

I'm not looking for one I already bought one.As far as Gary Weaver goes I email him and pm'ed him and NEVER get a response so that ship has sailed. Thanks for your help anyway.

Well, its true, you should stay away from videobob.

I emailed Bruce sometimes about his replicas, and he emailed mach every time, always kind and explained why the mail is so late...

Different user of the german BTTF board got his flux capacitor and theyre very happy. I believe they were around $400-600, he sells on ebay, too. I also know some people who got other replicas from him, like the remote control, or different delorean interior parts.

I dont anything what happened in US BTTF boards and what people talk about him. And I never bought something, but maybe if someones ineterested in his props, he should just email him...

BTW. What capacitor do you have now?

Bruce's props may not be super accurate but they should be built pretty well and not fall apart. If it does, Bruce should be there to help you out. Let us know what you think of it when you get it. Also, if you or anyone else does buy a reversed DS Flux there is a way to make it chase the correct way.

Despite negative comments, I am happy to help anyone with their Flux Capacitor project.
I will explain how I build mine and you can make your own judgment.

The enclosure is a genuine Stahlin brand, same one used in the film.
It must be disassembled and painted the correct color gray and then riveted back together. I got my color match from a paint chip obtained from the real screen used
prop at Universal Studios, Hollywood.

The internal glass relays are hard to find and average $300 or more each.
I made molds of the relays and I make clear castings of the glass tubes with a copper
rod inside to simulate the glass. They must be vacuumed to get them clear.
The relay portion is also cast and painted with brass finish and adorned with a silver
foil label, scanned from an original.

The electronics are a simple chase pattern from the outside, in.
The screen used prop used small incandescent bulbs which I can use if requested
but I prefer to use warm LED's.

* Note, there was never a strobe light or alternating speeds in the Flux Capacitor.
It only went one speed, which is what I time mine to.
It did get bright in the center by using a halogen projector lamp, but only for a few seconds during "flux dispersal".
Other builders like to add addiional lights or functions such as the Diamond Select version however this is not screen accurate in any way.

I also have replicated the elbow connections that mount on the top and sides of the flux. I can also use the genuine connectors if you don't mind paying for them.

The relays are first super glued to a PVC back board and then additional rivets are
installed to hold them in place.
In the past I made one with hot glue and it failed, so I have adjusted my methods.

I have been making these now for almost 8 years, I have built 6 Delorean Time Machine
replicas.

Thank you!

A lot has changed since my original post. VB has been taking the Time Machine construction to another level.

I will leave my previous posts as a testament to that even "I" can change my mind.
