NBC's Community

I never watched Ironside, and never even heard of that other show, so neither comes as a shock to me for being axed.
Community season 5 will premiere January 2, which is this year's October 19th. :)
Thanks for the info, I was wondering when I'd get to see it. Hopefully they knew when these were going to air when they filmed them, it was funny to see holiday themed shows originally airing months after the holidays they represented. The Simpson's 'tree house of horror' episodes rarely aired at or right near Halloween, but season 4 of Community was downright nutty with the scheduling in that regard.

Good to see that Rob Corddry is back in the role of Alan Conner (they guy who got Jeff fired originally), they had someone else in that role last season for some cofusing reason...

is it me or if Joel McHale channeling vintage Chevy Chase which is ironic as Chevy Chase is a cast member.

Man, I can't wait, two episodes tonight!
Funny thing, the weather forecast for tonight from a couple of days ago called for windy conditions tonight. My first and only worry was I'd lose power (I live where there's a pretty weak grid and LOTS of trees next to the wires) and wouldn't get to see the new season until later. Thankfully, the weather's not supposed to be that bad after all, but I'm sure many of you would have had the same fear form that kind of news...

So what'd anyone think of it? I'm not 100% sure how I felt, maybe I was expecting a little too much with all the hype...

I feel very good about it. They had a whole lot of threads from season four that they needed to sort out, so the first epidode felt like laying the new groundwork. The second felt like a proper episode of Community.

This hits some of my feelings about the episodes pretty well:
Community returns · The A.V. Club

"Relaxafex doesn't make you give up on your dreams! That's just one of the side effects!"

"Johnny Depp: the bad kind of good"

"French song about Excel"

Very satisfied to see the show back in form, even if it's not easy or comfortable at first.

Also, have you seen "Rick & Morty," Dan Harmon's other show? It's a cartoon on adult swim and it's INSANE.

I loved the first two episodes. I got a kick out of how they repeatedly referred to last season as "the gas leak year".

I think i need to watch them again on demand as I kept looking at everything in the backgrounds, more than paying attention to the plot, I think.
Burning the study room table? Wow, I hope they kept the real one somewhere as I'd hate to think the original prop got destroyed...
Yeah, the Nicholas Cage class stuff was pretty funny!

Yep, much better the second time around... I think I was doing an Abed the first time, instead of just enjoying them...

I was confused about the episode on 1-12, what show were they mocking there? The opening and style wasn't familiar to me at all. Looks like they'd tried a page from their 'Law and Order' eiposde about the potato.
But I didn't get it.
It was funny, but I think I'd have found it funnier had I known the show they were referencing...

They were referencing David Fincher's "Seven" specifically, and serial killer movies in general. I worked a tiny bit on that episode, when they were shooting the rain sequence. Which was a surprise to me because the rest of the day we worked on something very different, which I had assumed was the same episode, but apparently not! Turns out I worked on two episodes of community this season. :lol

Thanks for the info. I've seen, "Seven" several times, it never occured to me they were doing a setup for that movie, I'd assumed it was a reference to another TV show (and I generally can't stand crime shows, so it's easy for me not to get the reference).

I can imagine. I've worked on a couple of non-fiction shows and I know what you mean. One I did for the History channel once really bummed me out to find the segment I spent most of one day hanging out and watching being made wasn't on the episode I was in, on camera. So i had to go find and buy the DVD of the other show.

I thought they were doing a parody of Zodiac. The end of the episode felt about how I felt at the end of Zodiac. "Wait, what was the point of all that?" The difference being I enjoyed the episode and didn't have to sit through 3 hours of nonsense.

I think you're right. The more I think about it, the more it just seemed like it was meant to be Fincher free-for all, title sequence and constant rain from Seven, plot from Zodiac, music cues from Social Network, lighting from House of Cards, etc, etc.
