Nemik’s Manifesto (Andor)

I realized I never posted finished pics. I’m sure you all saw enough pieces of of it to get the idea, but I might as well put a few up.

Now I know why Cassian wanted to refuse it when Vel tried to give to him. It’s nasty! Didn’t they have 409 in a galaxy far, far away?! Haha

I was reminded yet again this morning how great a kit this was. I guess I’m spoiled now. Between this and the Bryar, I had such an easy time with the prep and assembly being that both kits were printed with such care for their design elements and patience. There was a fair amount of sanding for both pieces, but nothing too crazy and mostly because I was obsessed with getting them as perfect as possible.

That being said, the kit I just received is going to take me weeks before I can lay down any kind of paint. This is precisely why I never wanted to work with these models. This kind of print is exactly how I viewed all kits before I got the Bryar. I guess I just got lucky with the first two.

It took me 20 mins just to sand one side of one piece, and that’s a flat one! Look at the lines in that! The rest is gonna be be murder. Do yourselves all a favor and get one of these if nothing more than to see how it SHOULD be done.

Just got all the parts printed out, currently working on sanding. Very excited to get this put together!

I'm curious if it would be possible to build an offline version of the firmware so that I could run the device in airplane mode to save battery power and use it in places with no wifi connection; so far it looks like that's a no-go with any methods I've tried. Any idea if that is doable? I did actually manage to get this working using a local web server app on Android!

Thanks for all of your amazing work on this project!!

I was about to recommend you something like that. Great you did find out by yourself. You could also put them on a internal folder. All paths are relative

It seems like with some recent Android update or other, they've locked down the ability for Chrome to read local files; they can't access any other referenced file, use cookies, etc. The index.html file would load, but just as a white screen with text in times new roman and no cookie settings could be saved or retrieved.

I used an app called Simple HTTP Server, pointed it at the folder where I stored all the files, then it hosts those files on a 127.0.0.1 IP address that Chrome will load and treat like any other webpage. Then I just set a shortcut on the device's home screen to that URL. If it's OK with you, I can share my files so others can take advantage of them.

I also made a fork with a couple other features I was fiddling with - even though they don't ever light up in the show, I wanted the LEDs to do a little more than just sit there, so I added some random blinking boxes behind them, as well as a toggle to disable them if screen-accuracy is the priority. The top light blinks quickly between red, green, and white to give some varying illumination levels and the bottom light blinks slowly between off and on.

I also added a volume control so the animations can run without sound without needing to take the device out of the shell to adjust the volume; while the animation is playing, tapping the first symbol adjusts the volume, and tapping it while the animation is paused resets it as usual.

Saw a handheld game that very much resembled this prop recently. From the round button to the leather casing, lots of similarities. Maybe it was the original design inspiration for the prop, kind of like the Tandy computer used in the Pre-Mor office?
