Naboo Royal Cruiser

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a VUM finish? vacuum-metalized or something else?

Yep, vacuum-metallized. I've seen it done on different types of plastics but never on a resin cast. Not as cool as CessnaDriver's chrome paint but I bet VUM would be affordable if the lot was large enough.

It would be cool if someone could do a high quality model kit of the Naboo Star Skiff too!!

Yeah, I like the big, silver, retro Naboo ships too.

I nabbed one of Rich Long's Royal Naboo Starships several years ago. Beautiful replication, but as I recall Rich was pretty underwhelmed by the number of kits he moved.

Of course, it was a BIG sucker, and not exactly inexpensive, so that may have accounted, at least in part, for the lackluster sales.

The real challenge with these ships is reproducing the mirror-like chrome finish. Rich and I both experimented with several finishing approaches including mylar, electro-plating, and the ALSA spray-on stuff, but we never quite managed to lick the problem to our mutual satisfaction. Rich may disagree, but I have a hunch he'd have had more success in the sales department had his prototype display featured the correct finish.

Nevertheless, in spite of all the above, I'd jump at the chance to pick up a Spicer NRC. The Fantastic Plastic kit is fine for what it is, but there is certainly room for improvement.

gotta get the bling bling for the queens ship yo!

Wow machinyun!

Is that image of the Traveling W.S. displays?

The skiff looks cool as well, cloudborn.

These are all so-30's Art-deco with a lot of Northrop flying wing!

If I can find good blue prints or renderings, I may do these, with chromed finish.

Thanks for the inspiration, cloudborn.:cool

This is one of my all-time favorites from SW. It would be nice to see a kit for this one.

How about this?

I'm new to the RPF, but a project we're currently working on was 3D modelled, SLA printed, and all ~130 pieces fit together perfectly.

I'm wondering, what kind of price are people willing to pay for these rare pieces? Because if a digital model was created, the pieces could be Objet printed at any scale over and over.

Objet printer video:
YouTube - Legacy Effects used Objet printer for Iron Man 2

I mean to say anyone who felt like modelling the kit, could then submit the pieces to a printing service like www.laserrepro.com and get the parts shipped to them for either directly assembling or moulding/casting more kits...

Well that's fine, but I hand craft all of my master patterns.

No challenge in printing the model " over and over ". Besides, we are talking about a finished model with a chromed reflective finish ready to purchase for the collector.

Awesome cloudborn!

BTW, the post from acreation is me. I borrowed Acreation's computer to post before logging out and into my account! :confused
(My laptop had trouble with the hotel's router signal @ W.F.)

I was thinking the same thing. it looks like it's related to the flying wings planned in the 40s to be used as civilian craft.

Is that your completed kit?

Scott

No, I found it posted on Image Shack by darkside models. There wasn't any other information but I thought it was pretty good. Anyone hear of darkside models or know anything about this kit?

Wow cloudborn, nice high-rez image!

I'd LOVE to do a cut-away kit that detailed! How many would sell and would it be affordable? :confused
