Naboo Royal Cruiser

Question...has anyone ever released a good quality model of the Naboo Royal Cruiser from Ep II AOTC? I've seen the one made by Fantastic Plastic but I'm looking for a model with better detail and molding.

One of my favorite ships from the series. Reminds me of a Flying Fortress (sounds like one in the movie too). I would love to see a model of this.

I guess no one ever bothered since it's only got about 1 minute of screen time.

Hello All,

Fairly new to RPF.

I love this design as well, very art Deco. I would also like to see a kit. I thought about producing one, but I don't think there would be enough interest.

I've had a look at that kit and it's hard to tell about the detailing from the website. Is it close enough for you to 'correct/update?

The Fantastic Plastic kit was retired back in 2009 but it would need quite a bit of rework to make it more accurate.

I was hoping one of the amazing model makers here would have had a better kit to offer or be willing to create one.

I'm sure there would be many members willing to sign up on an interest thread if a reputable builder would take on the challenge.

Stunning design and been in love with it since I first saw it.

Chromed kits were not that unsual once upon a time.
Sad they never did that with this.

Well,

I'm always looking for the next kit to produce. I am in the process of producing two new kits for W.F., but due to RPF regs. I need a few more posts before I can advertise them here. I'm working on that as I type. They are being discussed on SSM, on the bench. ( OK to mention other forums? Don't remember if it is mentioned in the rules. :$)

Any idea of the scale you all would prefer? 1/288 scale puts the wingspan @12", fairly large IMO. Would you prefer larger? I would also need a lot of info/research to create an accurate master pattern. Any help appreciated:cool

You can check my website to see my work. I created the TOS Galactica for Timeslip as well as the Super viper and the Aries1B for AJA Models, just to name a few.

Regards,

Scott

Cool site Scott. If you plan not to tackle this one, any thoughts on doing a Imperial Shuttle, such as Vader's or the Emperor's shuttle or the Tydirium from RotJ in 72nd scale?

I think that MPC released one a ways back. I assume they are as rare as hens teeth.

I would consider that seriously. As you are aware, there needs to be interest in purchasing the subject before any material is cut. If I think there is enough interest, I will create a kit.

I also have to be careful not to make the kit too high a profile, lest the legal hawks of Lucas Film Licensing swoop in with a C&D!:cry

Thanks for the request/info about that subject.

Yeah, I like the big, silver, retro Naboo ships too.

I nabbed one of Rich Long's Royal Naboo Starships several years ago. Beautiful replication, but as I recall Rich was pretty underwhelmed by the number of kits he moved.

Of course, it was a BIG sucker, and not exactly inexpensive, so that may have accounted, at least in part, for the lackluster sales.

The real challenge with these ships is reproducing the mirror-like chrome finish. Rich and I both experimented with several finishing approaches including mylar, electro-plating, and the ALSA spray-on stuff, but we never quite managed to lick the problem to our mutual satisfaction. Rich may disagree, but I have a hunch he'd have had more success in the sales department had his prototype display featured the correct finish.

Nevertheless, in spite of all the above, I'd jump at the chance to pick up a Spicer NRC. The Fantastic Plastic kit is fine for what it is, but there is certainly room for improvement.

I'm cool with 1/288 scale...12" wingspan is just about right for display on a desk or hanging from the ceiling.

@Carson...I agree. The best option is to find a way to apply VUM finish. That would result in a much more accurate chrome finish...but I don't think I've ever seen anyone with access to one those machines try it on a resin cast.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a VUM finish? vacuum-metalized or something else?

Holy #@%#!

That Mustang is incredible.

CessnaDriver, How much did the SS cost you and what type of surface prep did it need? It looks truly amazing!:cool

I sent the statue in with the painted plain silver paint that the Hong Kong factory gave it. I forget what the cost was, like eighty bucks maybe? I think prices went up since though.

One of these days I need to finish my resin Raiders idol and see how they do on resin. I think they can do it as long as it is very smooth.
