I have put this in the costume forum but thought that maybe you all may be able to help. I need to duplicate the Mystique costume from X men on a real woman --Body Paint---scales--contacts--etc for a BIG affair in Oct. May be on national TV--you MAY--not will--MAY be compensated for your efforts--any help would be appreciated. Whatever I have to do--spray on body paint--glue on scales--it doesnt matter--the gal that will wear this is open to it--wanna help?? PS--she is HOTTTTT Check her out here http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=66988054

Any fullpics, ideas, opinions--whatever will be looked at. If I choose your idea--I WILL make sure you get credit for it and if there is monetary gain-- (a prize for the best costume is offered) you will reap some of the benefits.

Thanks

Re: Mystique Help

This is probably not an original idea, but I'm not a costumer.

For the scales, I'd sculpt them in clay (preferably on a body mold) then make molds and make either silicon or latex appliances. With molds, you can make as many copies of any appliance you need.

As for the body paint, I believe they make a spray on type. If you can't get that, you can always try the latex paint, but there may be some side effects.

Re: Mystique Help

No matter how hot she is, her Myspace page is as obnoxious as possible. I can't stand going to pages that start blaring music, much less rap music, and the sparkly background would put half of Japan into epileptic shock.

Dont care about the music--just the images---

I don't understand what you plan on doing. If you're not planning on sculpting the scales, what other options did you have in mind? I guess you could get one of those mermaid costumes and cut it up, but who knows how that will look.

And if you do end up making scales, are you just going to sculpt clay scales on her, paint her blue and send her out? What's going to hold the scales on, crazy glue? What's going to allow them to flex? Whether you like it or not, your going to have to sculpt in one medium and make casts in another. It's the only way you're going to be able to pull it off.

Re: Mystique Help

If it's just for the cameras and a one-of thing, I think your best option is body painting with an airbrush.

Otherwise, you're talking full body cast, sculpting, casting, applying, painting, removing....it would be a huge amount of work.

I have done some research in that out fit, the down side is that the one used in the movie was mostly latex. This means she would not be able to wear it for to long before her body starts to over heat. If lucky 30 min. to an hour. That's why her parts were short. Plus it takes quite awhile to apply the outfit.
as stated before the scales are simple enough. A positive mold made out of clay. Then make a negative mold (using products for a company call smooth-on. They have a coloring that can be applied to the silicon for the color required.

Lost of work and lots of fittings to get the look your looking for.
